Diy Toilet Paper Christmas Ornaments

Diy Toilet Paper Christmas Ornaments – Looking for the best handmade Christmas ornaments to celebrate 2020? We couldn’t resist these DIY toilet paper decorations! Looking back over the year, there are a mountain of opportunities to feel heartbroken, scared, disappointed, fearful or angry. But a massive Toilet Paper shortage in 2020?

Every Christmas season, I buy or make decorations that represent our year as a family. But this year, there are no special holidays or family celebrations.

My family had a small bonfire in the backyard and a large chalk drawing was painted. We grow vegetables and toast. We walked in the garden and did crafts around the kitchen table. And I agree that we think about using “family cloth” if our toilet paper runs out? (I have a bunch of old sneakers handy, just in case!)

So to symbolize this year, I chose toilet paper. It’s a light hearted Christmas ornament for quarantine 2020! I can’t wait to give it to family and friends.

1. After gathering the supplies (we buy most of our craft supplies at Michaels), use a paper cutter to cut a piece of Kraft card into 3 inch x 1.5 inch strips. Then, put a small piece of double-sided tape on one side of the card stock, and wrap it around the center of the wooden spool to make a small toilet paper roll.

Do not make the rolls too tight; you want your toilet paper to slide into the holder, just like real toilet paper!

Why? Because you can’t make toilet paper decorations without making small rolls of toilet paper inside. It’s 2020… we have time to get caught up in ridiculous details.

2. After making a roll of toilet paper, press a small piece of tape on both sides of it. Align your ribbon to the tape and start rolling!

3. Keep rolling! Okay…we’re going to use all 3 yards of ribbon because that much makes the toilet paper look real. (And if there’s a 2021 ribbon shortage, you’re good. We’ve learned to expect the unexpected, right? Ribbon shortages can happen!)

As you roll, keep pressing a piece of double-sided tape on the ribbon so your roll doesn’t accidentally tear!

4. When you reach the end of your toilet paper roll, decorate your decoration with an awesome 2020 number using small number stickers or Cricut patterns.

We prepared matte black vinyl from our Vinyl Starter Kit on the LightGrip Machine Mat, then cut out the design with our Cricut Explore Air™ 2 machine. The vinyl is easy to apply to grosgrain ribbon using standard Cricut transfer techniques.

5. Cut the end of the ribbon with pinking shears. Don’t skip this step – it pulls all the decorations together!

6. Finally, thread a piece of festive Christmas ribbon onto the bobbin, and tie it into a loop. We pull the knot on the bobbin so that our jewelry looks clean.

7. Your 2020 toilet paper decoration is complete! Enjoy hanging it on your Christmas tree for years to come!

In our first year of marriage, we moved into our “forever” house, and that December I was so excited to decorate our first tree. However, after a quick visit to the store, I realized that the beautiful glass ornaments I saw were very expensive! Even the cheap plastic ones are beyond my budget. I’m not ready to spend over $300 on decorations, but I want an awesome tree. The struggle is real. I finally found a solution and spent a few hours one night making this handmade Christmas Ornament with toilet paper and a toothpick.

I made two types of Christmas tree ornaments by hand. Snowflake decorations are made using toilet paper rolls and spiked burst balls are made using toothpicks! Check out both tutorials below – I made a video for each – and, I’ve included a bonus tip for making your own treetop. (note: this post contains affiliate links)

Tip: Each toilet paper ornament requires about 2-3 tubes of toilet paper, so if you’re making a large amount, ask friends and family to donate!

1. Start by flattening the roll of toilet paper — place it on the table and push it flat with the palm of your hand. Each ornament takes about 3 rolls, so I recommend applying about 24 rolls at once.

2. Starting at one end, cut the split tube into sections. Depending on the width of the cut, you should get 6-8 links out of it.

3. You can make different kinds of patterned snowflakes when the ring is cut. There are 4 basic ring shapes that I use to make them all. You can leave it as it is, fold it in half, cut one end or cut it in half.

4. The shape of the base of the snow is almost like a flower. I used 5 threaded tube rings for some and 6 threaded tube rings for others. I would recommend doing the basic shape first and then build it up!

This one is made using a standard flat ring and the centerpiece is made by folding two rings together.

This is another example of folding a tube and gluing it in the middle to add an extra decoration!

This centerpiece is made using a flat ring. To make the outer edge, I cut a ring on one side and glued it around the flower design. Between each “petal” I used a flat ring cut in half.

This beautiful snowflake is made using all 4 shapes. It is the one shown in the video above. The base is made of tubular rings, the centerpiece is made of rings cut in half, the outer leaves are made of rings open on one side, and the outer eye consists of rings folded in half and inserted. on top of each other.

5. After you’ve built your snowflake, you’re ready to spray paint. Apply spray paint, immediately followed by adhesive spray. Then, apply the glitter quickly. Let it dry before removing it.

6. When dry, attach the ribbon. Or you can hang it without ribbon. Whichever you like.

Don’t stop making handmade Christmas tree decorations. The best thing about these broken ornaments is that you can use the same technique to make Christmas tree ornaments!

Toilet Paper Christmas Gnomes

1. Start by pushing a toothpick into the Styrofoam. I made mine by drawing with a line. I put my toothpicks in a row around the circle, and when it’s done I start a new row. But you can go easier with your toothpick if you like.

2. After each row is done, I add a little hot glue to the rows to keep all the toothpicks in place.

3. When your ball is all covered, you can add extra hot glue to any toothpicks that look like they might be a little loose.

4. Spray the ball with any color spray paint of your choice and immediately spray it with spray adhesive.

5. Cover the ball with glitter and let it dry. Before bringing it inside, shake it gently to remove excess light.

I used different colors of spray paint and different colors of glitter. The more glitter the more spikes and balls will fill.

The decorations that my friend Stephanie added to the tree were made using hand wood. It is about 4 inches long.

I love the variety of size spikes. The process of making a large one is the same. Use slightly larger Styrofoam balls and long sticks.

The ornament I am most proud of is my DIY tree ornament. To make it, I used kabob sticks that I had left over from the winter. I pushed part of the wire hanger into the ball on one side and wrapped it around the top of the branch on the other side.

I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am with how my homemade Christmas tree turned out.

The total cost is around $30 for every tree! I added tulle, gold leaf, and flowers to finish it off, but it honestly looks great without those additions! You can easily fill an entire tree with a handmade Christmas tree and that’s it
