Disney Cruise Port Canaveral Schedule – Major improvements to Disney Cruise Line’s terminal in Port Canaveral removed a major hurdle as the port commissioner on Wednesday selected a company to oversee the project.

The two largest ships in Disney’s current fleet of four (Dream and Fantasy, both capable of carrying 4,000 passengers) are currently based in Port Canaveral. Under the agreement with the port, Disney will have three vessels in Port Canaveral. Two ships will be built and one of the existing ships will also be built.
Disney plans to bring those ships online in 2021, 2022 and 2023, adding three more ships to the company’s entire fleet.
“We are very pleased to be able to move forward with this project,” Port Canaveral CEO John Murray said after the port authority’s actions were over on Wednesday.
Based on the recommendation of a five-member committee of reviewers, the PCL/Heard team voted unanimously.

Bill Crowe, the port’s vice president of engineering, construction and facilities, said the project between cruise terminals 8 and 10 is estimated to cost a total of $46.5 million.
PCL and Heard will focus on overseeing land operations known as “hazardous construction management services,” including locating subcontractors for the project.
Other bidders for the project include Ivey’s Construction Inc. of Merritt Island. Hade, who previously worked extensively on the Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal project. Ivey is #2 in the ratings rankings.
Separately, Port Commissioners on Wednesday selected Orlando’s KMI International as the “owner’s representative” for the port, working with the port’s internal project manager, architects and contractors to help oversee the project. KMI will represent the interests of the port and make the project go smoothly. Another company that bid on the contact was Orlando’s Hill International.
Port Canaveral Prepares For The Arrival Of The Disney Wish
Crowe said port commissioners will award a contract for a new passenger boarding bridge for Cruise Terminal 8 in August. In January 2020 they will award contracts for the waterfront phase of the project at cruise terminals 8 and 10.
As part of the agreement, Disney will begin paying a port fee known as the “Capital Expense Recovery Fee” of $3.15 per passenger who boards or disembarks Disney vessels at Port Canaveral. The fee is designed to reimburse the port for a $46.48 million terminal upgrade.
This fee is in addition to the $7.98 pier fee per passenger, and Disney will pay docking, line handling and harbormaster fees at the port under the terms of the new contract.
The agreement allows Port Canaveral to allow non-Disney ships to schedule occasional cruise calls at Disney’s Cruise Terminal 8.
