Volleyball can be played anywhere. in the backyard, on the beach, out on the field and professionally on indoor courts. But regardless of the surrounding area, equipment, etc., the dimensions of a volleyball court must be the same. Anything bigger or smaller would hinder the smooth play of this exciting and competitive game.

So if you are planning to build a court in your property, educational institution or club, follow the dimensions as indicated in the diagram here.

In addition to the court and its dimensions, we also look at the rules and scoring, which are important aspects of the game, but also a little about beach volleyball.

The rules are not as complicated as one might think. A volleyball team consists of six players. Three play as forwards and the other three as defenders. The forward three are the left front, center front and right front players. The three in defense are the left back, center back and right back players. The player in the right back position serves and must be outside the service line (back line). He must serve within eight seconds after the referee blows his whistle. The ball must be set up to serve and only after the service has been completed may the server enter the court. A player may only touch the ball once and the team may not touch the ball more than three times in a single play.

A point is scored when the ball is successfully established in the opponent’s court. The ball must pass the net through the posts or antennae to be considered a legal play. One point to note is that the touchline and baselines are also part of the field. Therefore, any ball that lands on them and touches them in any way is considered in. A point is also scored if the opponents kick the ball out of bounds. Penalty points are also awarded by the referee at his discretion in the event of a foul. If a throw-in is won by either team (the team receiving the point), the players move clockwise and switch positions. In other words, the front right player becomes the back right player (server). A match usually consists of three sets (games), with the team winning two sets resulting in victory. Best-of-three 5 sets are also played in larger tournaments. The first team to reach twenty-five points, with a difference of at least two points, wins the set.

Beach volleyball is more of a fun version of the game and was invented about thirty years after volleyball first started. You can call it fun-in-the-sun volleyball. The difference here is that in this type of volleyball there are only two players on each side. Usually 1 foot of sand is needed on the court. Anything less would be slightly dangerous, because unlike indoor volleyball, there is no hand or foot protection in beach volleyball. Another difference is the scoring system in this version, in which each match is best of three sets, the winner of each set being the first to reach 21 points by a margin of two. If the match goes to a deciding set, the first to reach 15 points by a margin of two wins. Also, timeouts for training purposes are not allowed here, unlike the indoor version. The dimensions of a beach volleyball court are the same as an indoor court, i.e. 60 feet x 30 feet. Also the height of the net for men and women is the same as the indoor version.

Volleyball has gained a lot of popularity over the years and is played in almost all countries around the world. Apart from being played for fun, it is also part of a serious competition worldwide, such as the World Championship and the Olympics. Finally, this game is good news for cardio and muscle building.
