I’m not sure what the appeal of spring cleaning is, but I caught the first site bug of spring! Suddenly, the urge to clean every square centimeter of our house was overwhelming and I became a cleaning woman. Maybe it was the first time the sun really shined through our windows, I could see all the dirt I would have missed while cleaning in the winter, and suddenly I felt like we could be the dirtiest. I know it’s not true, but that’s what it feels like when the first rays of glorious sunlight come through the window right in front of our kitchen. Suddenly, I could see a drop of water shining in front of our oven, and visible dust everywhere.

The feeling that everything is dirty and needs to be cleaned can be overwhelming. One way to make cleaning easier is to have a list of items that need to be cleaned. Daily soaps may seem overwhelming, and I know we’re all busy with taking care of kids, working and living our lives. The daily cleaning list is a guide that must be done every day. Use this list as a guide to what you can do, but if you can’t do all of these things every day, don’t worry! Some of these things are good if done every few days. I use this checklist as a reminder and do what I can when I have time! Also, don’t be afraid to ask your child to help with a few things… you’ll be surprised how much they can check things off your list!
This weekly cleaning list might be my favorite! This is a great reminder that if you take just 10 minutes a day to clean one room, your home will be cleaner. Getting into this routine has helped me to not be so tired of cleaning our house in the first place. I also noticed that after a few weeks, it took me less time to practice because nothing was dirty now that I was doing it. I can’t stress enough that I keep things clean and tidy. You’ll be surprised how much calmer everything is when your house is clean!
A monthly cleaning list is great for crossing off some things that we don’t need to clean often and might forget. I try to do one of these things every day or maybe a few every weekend when I don’t seem too busy. Some of these things are done monthly instead of monthly, and that’s okay. As I said before, this checklist is more of a guideline than a must-do. But…you can’t do it alone! Get your family to help check the items on this list.

Don’t try to tidy and clean your house at the same time. Do one way and then do another. For decluttering, we highly recommend Marie Kondo’s Life-Changing Tidying Magic (it really is life-changing)!
If your house is dirty, take it easy. If you try to do too many things at once, there’s a good chance you’ll get frustrated and give up altogether. Take things one room at a time. I would recommend starting in your kitchen because it will be easy to see the difference in your cleaning and you can use it as motivation to keep going!
Create your own cleaning environment: put on some music, light a candle, put on nice clothes and do it. This may sound small (or even silly) but your thoughts can make a big difference in deep cleaning.
