Milestone birthdays — 30, 40, 50, 60. Since they only happen once every ten years, we definitely need to make time to celebrate them and celebrate them! My mom recently turned 60 on June 15th and we definitely knew we had to do something! My mom definitely deserves a big celebration, so we did. My mom wanted something bigger than usual, but she didn’t want it to be too big. Since we’ve been doing things a little differently, I thought I’d jump in and share some of our ideas. While I realize not everyone will want the exact same theme, some ideas can still transcend decor and age!

When deciding where we wanted to have the party we started looking around at small venues for rent, when lo and behold we decided to have it at one of my parents favorite places to stop and have a drink and something to eat – Hidden Backyard. This is a little watering hole in North Royalton with home cooked food and a great bar. There is a great party space here, but we decided to hire the bar for the evening. It was great – a cozy and fun party atmosphere. Thank God we were in for the torrential rain!

As with any birthday, some form of cake is needed. Instead of going all out with a giant birthday cake, we decided to make cupcakes from the one and only Michael Angelo in Broadview Heights! I have definitely written about them before and their bakery is amazing! We did a mix of yellow and chocolate cupcakes with a chocolate mousse filling with white buttercream frosting and gold glitter. So delicious!

We prepared these fun menus for Vistaprint too! In addition to our appetizers, we prepared bowls of a variety of flavored nuts from Cleveland-based King Nuts Company!
It’s not a milestone birthday party without the obligatory balloons, especially the big and golden 6-0 ones! We picked up number balloons and a set of black, gold and white table height balloons from Party City.
