Christian Jack O Lantern – Long ago, October 31st was a holiday to celebrate the harvest season. People tried to scare away evil spirits with scary clothes. Children would dress up and go from house to house telling people that if they listened, the evil spirits would go away.
Years later, the church decided to change the celebration and make it a celebration of eternal life. Instead of honoring the evil spirits, they honored all the Christians who had died in the previous year. This holiday took place on November 1 – called All Saints’ Day or All Saints’ Day. The previous evening was called All Hallows Eve. Over the years, the name has been shortened to “Halloween”.
