The Name Jar is great for talking about the meaning and significance of names and the Big Orange Splat is my personal favorite for talking about breakups/favorites/hopes and dreams (Affiliate Links).

If you don’t have time for a guided text, let the students know that you want to get to know them better not only as students, but also as people/or bulletin boards.

Brainstorm lists of potential favorites and/or things that make students unique: favorite colors, foods, subjects, numbers, sports, places, activities, secret talents, family, and fun facts are all possible ideas for decorating name art letters!

My first draft (before colors) included autumn and spring themes in K, art objects in A, technology tools in T, Halloween letters in I, and a travel theme in and around E. You can also find books, palm trees, my minpin lily , ceramics, music, running, and teacher themed drawings in the background. Just because you have a short name doesn’t mean you have to leave out details in your drawings!

Give each student the name of their bubble letter. Print these out if you plan to laminate them and use them throughout the year. Their job is to decorate each letter with a different design, color or description that tells the class something about them.

#1: Put the names on the bulletin board with the words “Our Class” in the middle. Then add photos of your time together throughout the year. Once you start adding photos to this board it’s seriously sweet! Here’s what mine looked like before I added photos.

#2: Put the names on the “Great Job” bulletin board. Names (in clothespins or whatever you want to hang student work on the wall) are there all year, but what each student does with their name may change during the year.

#3: Laminate and keep the name tags somewhere safe. Whenever you display work in the hallways or on a bulletin board, it’s a good idea to mark with student names, use these to mark each child’s work.

Artist’s note: I use non-glossy paper so that when you apply the paint, it sticks to the paper rather than “sitting on the glossy surface” – this helps reduce smudging. If you use markers on your poster, I don’t recommend using “washable” markers because they smear more easily (in my opinion) than the normal non-washable types. Happy colors! I introduce bubble letters and students create their name in bubble letters in a unique way to enhance their portfolio.

1. In your sketchbook, practice writing your name in different ways. Choose your favorite. This will be the skeleton of the bubble letter.

2. Trace around each letter of your skeleton. Don’t forget a circle (eyeball) in the letters a, b, e, d, g, etc.

3. Delete the skeleton of each bubble letter. Do not remove the eyeballs present. You now have a bubble character name.

1. Now draw your name in a skeleton shape on a paper using 3 lines. See the chart for the placement of upper and lower case letters.

2. Trace around each letter as in practice. It’s okay to go over and under the lines. Don’t forget to add eyeballs where needed.

4. Start adding flair to your letters. A flair is used to change or decorate a character’s appearance. See the examples above.

3. Using a pencil and ruler, measure 4 inches from the top and draw a line across the portfolio (long lines). Now measure 4 inches from the bottom and draw a line across the portfolio. Measure the distance between the two lines and mark halfway. Draw a line in half of the portfolio. Your portfolio should be like your 3 line paper.

4. Using the steps above, draw what is on your 3 line paper onto the portfolio, with the 3 lines drawn onto the portfolio.

5. Add your flair. When you are done drawing your bubble letters with flair, delete the three lines.

Using markers, start coloring your bubble letters. Make sure to fill the space completely. A poster board should not be displayed unless it is intended. Create Use dark and light versions of the color. Make it interesting. See the examples below to see different coloring techniques.

Have students create a bubble letter word on the back of the portfolio that best describes them. All letters must represent the word used. Typography is the art of arranging letters to make written language legible, legible and attractive when displayed. For example, a warning sign, store name or letters on websites. Typography looks at the style, size and spacing of letters. Here are some examples:

Name Design And Graffiti Art

1. Before your child starts creating their own name, they need to practice some basic ways to make letters. Letters are commonly known as typography.

2. Ask your child to practice drawing letter styles. If you have young children, encourage them to first make the dots bigger and then smaller. They can move on to circles, squares, etc.

3. Now create the letter with different marks, it can use dots, dashes, crosses, hyphens or any other marks.

For younger children who only manage to draw one or two symbols, ask them to choose their favorite.

5. Oppose the letter. Think about what the character could be, be it an animal, an object or a toy. If you have young children, encourage them to choose a font style they like and try it out. Or help them by drawing the letters and then asking them to fill in the markers or color.

1. Now your child has discovered and experimented with different ways to make letters to design their name. Ask them to design their name using different letter styles. If your child has a long name, it can be their initials. If so
