Murktide Regent, which you discard and is pretty powerful to boot, is a Modern Horizons 2 card that will likely be banned in the future.
Murktide Regent is a flying seven-mana Blue 3/3 that gets a +1/+1 counter when you cast an instant or sorcery from your graveyard. It also has a deve that allows you to isolate cards from your graveyard to help pay for it. This means that as long as you discard five cards, you can potentially use them for two Blue mana.
Research isn’t just to cheapen it, as it will come with a +1/+1 counter for every second and spell you cast, paying for the research part of the cost. This means you could potentially play an 8/8 for two mana, which could be even stronger if you cast more seconds or enchantments. We are not saying that this card will definitely be banned one day, but it has many features that are necessary for such a claim.
Grief is aptly named because you will definitely use it to hurt your opponent. Sorrow is a Black 3/2 four-mana and faces threats, which makes it difficult to block. When entering the battlefield, the opponent must open their hand and then choose a non-land card to discard.

Thought Monitor is a 2/2 seven-mana Blue artifact that costs a small amount of mana per artifact in play. It also flies and lets you draw two cards when it enters the battlefield. That’s a lot to take in, but it basically means you’ll play this on turn two and draw two cards immediately. It’s a lot of work for one card to handle, and if people can bring back Affinity in a new way, it could be very powerful.

Persist -1/-1 is a useful keyword that brings non-opponent creatures back from the dead. Continuity is more or less the same, but like magic.
With just two mana, you can return a non-legendary creature from the graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it. There are many different uses for it, modern and beyond, and as a result you can expect to see it mostly everywhere.
Esper Sentinel is a White 1/1 one mana that says “Each turn when the opponent casts their first undead spell, draw a card until that player pays X, where X is Esper Sentinel’s power.”
This means that if your opponent doesn’t pay mana, you can draw a card. However, if you put this in a deck that can power Esper Sentinel—say, Modern Human—it’ll be a 2/2 or more, which means you’ll probably draw an extra card. . This is a great value.

Grist, Hunger Tide, is one of the most interesting new cards in Modern Horizon 2 because of its ability to be taken as an insect creature.
This is probably the most interesting card design in all of Modern Horizons 2. Grist is a three-mana Black and Green planeswalker that can grind itself Hunger Tide a bit and spawn insect tokens and sacrifice creatures. destroy creatures or planeswalkers, or save life from your enemies based on the number of creatures in your graveyard.
However, Grist is a 1/1 insect creature as long as it’s not on the battlefield. This means you can get it with cards like Chord of Calling and Collected Company. It can make a big impact in building such a deck, and it’s a very powerful walker to boot.
Board wipe is part of a Control deck in any format because sometimes you need to be able to wipe every creature on the board. The problem comes when it’s early game and you don’t have enough mana to wipe the board, use it, and only have one main threat to deal with.

Ignoble Hierarch is a Burma Green 0/1 that you can tap for Black, Red or Green mana. It’s also promoted – which means if you have a creature that attacks by itself, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
A deck full of Black, Red, and Green cards, Jund doesn’t really need anything new to make it better, but sometimes you get things you don’t want – and even more rarely, those things are truly exceptional. . This is one of those times.

We get some interesting merfolk in Modern Horizons 2. The most powerful is Syvelun of Sea and Sky, an indestructible merfolk that draws cards and helps protect your other creatures. Tide Shaper is also an absolute beast of a card, but in a more subtle way.
Tide Shaper is a one-man Blue 1/1 that gets +1/+1 as long as the opponent controls an island territory. You can also pay extra mana when you cast a Tide Shaper to turn a land into an island as long as the Tide Shaper remains on the battlefield. It’s a great way to disrupt your opponent’s mana flow, and it’s a very good card.
Finally, we have one of the earliest spoilers for Modern Horizons 2, Urza’s Saga. Epic Urza is an epic land of enchantment. This means that when you play it, it has a counter on it, and then on your next two upkeeps before going to the graveyard. The first counter lets you tap Saga Urza for colorless mana, the second adds a two-pay ability to trigger a 0/0 Construct that gains +1/+1 for each artifact you control, and the last ability lets you.
