Daisy Vest Patch Placement Back – Congratulations! You and your daughter have joined the Girl Scout family and are ready to take that first big step. Uniform! But you have a vest or sash and where the heck do you keep all those badges and patches?
There are two different options for the Daisies uniform. There’s a standard vest that you see on Brownies and Juniors. However, Daisies also have the option of wearing a tunic. There is no headband option for these entry-level Girl Scouts.

To complete the uniform, the Daisies wear a white shirt and khaki bottoms. If you really want to go all out for your new Girl Scout, you can purchase a blue daisy skirt paired with a blue daisy cap.
Official Cadette, Senior, Ambassador Cargo Vest
Most leaders found that parents are reluctant to buy blue skirts, but usually everyone wears skirts or khakis. This is why most of Daisy Fuji’s photos have the girls wearing only skirts or khakis.
However, if you’re at a cookie stand or other event, feel free to sport that cute daisy chain.
And if you really want to go all in, Girl Scouts recently introduced an official Daisy Scarf and Scarf Slider. I must say that the scarf looks great and can make your girl look official when paired with just a white polo and khakis and no vest.
Now when my daughter was Daisy, I chose the vest. I felt the tank had a “Welcome to Wal-Mart” feel to me. But if I had to do it again, I think I would choose the tank. Not only does it have kangaroo pockets (which can be very handy!), but my daughter wears vests in Brownie and above, so it would be nice to have a unique uniform for that tier.
Badges & Patches: What’s The Difference?
The first things you want to buy are any signature items for your Daisy uniform. This includes your flag patch, your council insignia, and your troop numbers. You also need to get an Insignia tab holder and WAGGGS and Daisy membership pins. The WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts) pin will go with your daughter, so all you have to do is buy it.
A note of caution here: when purchasing a set of council id, troop numbers and insignia tag holders you need to ensure you have them for daisy tier. They are yellow and should be combined with other Daisy uniform items online or in a Girl Scout store. Petals and seeds
The Daisy program runs for two years and so you will have plenty of badges and pins to display on the front of your Daisy vest. Just walk in front of the official award and distinctive vest. The biggest and most obvious prize streak is the daisy petals. These petals, along with the blue center, represent the main purpose of the Daisy Level which is to teach the Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law.
And then, like a flower in your garden, there are four financial petals on the west daisy under the petals of the flower. Your Daisy earns two of these each year of the program, usually during cookie season.
Senior Girl Scout Vest
The bottom of the vest or leg is where you will often find large travel patches. Daisy has three trips to the level. Every time your daughter is welcomed on a trip to Daisy Flower Garden, Between Earth and Sky or 3 Cheers for Animals, the travel set is added to the bottom front of the Daisy vest. Other awards received
For a long time, that was pretty much all a Daisy could earn outside of pins for My Promise, My Faith, as well as a safety award pin and a travel top pin. There are also cookie pins and membership pins that are usually awarded at the end of each year.
However, over the years, Daisy has had the opportunity to earn more badges, including a variety of badges in cybersecurity, programming, automotive design, robotics, engineering, and the outdoors.
I’m glad Girl Scouts is expanding programming for Disney. A program with only furloughs, permits and travel really didn’t justify two years.
Daisy Vest With Insignia Iron On Patch
Don’t forget: Your daisy also has a chance at a World Thinking Day badge and Global Action Award that will also earn a place on the front of that vest or leg. What goes after Daisy West?
The back of the Daisy vest (and really all of the Girl Scout uniforms) is where you put all those awesome fun patches, cookie patches, fall product patches, and other no-reward patches. It is for participation related events and not for skills development that badges are presented.
So if your troop is going to a Halloween party, they might get you a fun patch but not an official badge/petal. But don’t feel bad: You can sport that cute patch on the back of your waistcoat.
Many of the badges / patches your Daisy will receive in her time at this level are easy to iron on. However, some badges require you to sew them on. (And to be fair, some iron on patches will need a stitch or two I’ve found).

If you’re hesitant to pick up the needle and thread, there are some adhesive backs you can purchase specifically for Girl Scout badges. What we have used is the magic of the badge. It has level specific pages with pre-cut sticker shapes to fit pins, badges and signs. You can also purchase regular sheet to cut specific shapes for any non-standard patches you may have.
So, congratulations again for joining our big Girl Scout family. There’s no reason to be overwhelmed with your first uniform purchase. I hope this is just the first of many Girl Scout uniforms for you and your daughter. Note: The following information is current as of the July 2018 badge release. I no longer have all the available badges/vests to play in order. Right now, I’m not going to try to add more guides, but I won’t remove them because they’re still useful for calculating what you think you can fit. 🙂
I made all of these images because the official uniform placement guides provided by GSUSA are not to scale and do not include images. The clipart style is basically a great guide, but it’s hard to use when you have very active troops or scouts earning (or nearly all) badges and travel available.
The images below use every current badge available for their level as of July 2018. Not every soldier or girl will make every badge, but this will help you understand how to try and piece things together if you have a G.I.R.L. Which achieved that goal. Side note, if your troop doesn’t use a crest you can increase troop numbers, strings and bridges and most of the time get a full line of space for more badges.
Girl Scout Junior Size Medium Vest Greenwith 22 Patches And 4 Pins Green
I’ve tried a bunch of different setups and it seems these 4 are the cleanest. On a positive note, they all still have a little more room to accommodate what’s to come next year.
I’ve tried to keep all trips on the card side like I do on all other layers. It’s very crowded, but it’s possible. If you do, you can put Global Action and World Thinking Day patches on the bottom of the other side and still put 5 random rows of 4 (total 20) flower pins. Or you can enter 7 random rows of 4 (total 20) 28) flower seeds. There are currently 12 non-travel floral badges so there is more room if/when they are released.
If I move all the flower badges to the side of the flag, it looks much cleaner. You can enter 7 lines of 4 if you overlap them. This gives you plenty of room to line up the Global Action and World Thinking Day badges both above and below the original 3 Journeys tab. Or just put GA and WTD on the back to make it less bulky. This gives you room for 7 more flower badges if/when they become free.
It just shows what happens if you don’t cross the badge lines. You can still fit 4, but now you can only fit 6 rows instead of 7. There’s only room to add 3 more flower buds later in this arrangement. I suspect you can’t draw lines on an XXS/XS vest, so this setup is probably closest to what it would look like.
