Jingle Bells was originally titled One Horse Open Sleigh, but was later released as Jingle Bells or One Horse Open Sleigh. Later, the original part was dropped and only Jingle Bells remained, possibly due to the prominence of that line in the song’s chorus. The bells mentioned in the texts are small bells attached to horses, used to make sounds to avoid collisions, since the horse sleigh is almost silent.
This version of Jingle Bells uses the original harmony, which is a bit more complex than the version we hear almost exclusively today. A newer and more familiar tune is used so people can enjoy playing the song as they know it now. As you can see, in the main section of this website you have a link to any note if you are in doubt, but all the recorder songs shown here are for simple research.
