How To Make Fun Diy Cardboard Penguin Christmas Decorations
Penguins are a great material for winter crafts and I think they are a favorite of everyone, because penguins are so cute!
There are two distinct parts to this craft, the penguin himself paints and decorates the background This makes it very easy for you as you can either do the part like I did or the part you think your child will enjoy the most and you go with it.
I’ve shared some more ideas below on ways to adapt this craft so you can change it to include materials you already have or easily find, or adapt the activity to something you think your child will find more fun. Go with what works for you!
You can print and use the template as many times as you like, perfect if you want to do this with a group.
Penguin Coloring Sheet Craft Puppet
Print your penguin template on white printer paper or card and color the beak and legs with an orange marker and the cheeks with a pink marker.
Pour your black paint onto a plate or tray, this makes it easier to access You can hold your pom pom with your fingers, or if you don’t like the feel of the paint, you can hold it using a cloth instead.
Dip your pom pom into the paint and then use it to decorate the parts of your penguin that would normally be blackened by dipping in the paper and then let the paint dry.
I’ve found over the years that the easiest way to print with bubble wrap is to make a little mitt like glove that you can put on your child’s hand. Not only does this prevent them from getting too covered in paint (which is probably a win for me and them) but it also means you can get a better print in the form of a circular area.
A Free Pattern For A Simple Penguin Softie.
To do this, simply cut a piece of bubble wrap that is more than twice the width of your child’s hand and then wrap it in a small bag. You may or may not tap the top depending on what you prefer
All you have to do is dip your bubble wrap covered palms in blue and then lay your hands on the colored card or paper to make the bubble wrap print. Do this until your paper is covered
I used pom poms and black paint since we had it at home but for a quick version that doesn’t have to wait for the paint to dry you can paint the penguin body with a bingo pump or just paint it in black pen. Something even simpler
Instead of the painted background I did, you could glue your penguin to blue paper and use a white pen or paint to make a snowflake on the background, or maybe use some snowflake stickers.
