Printable Bulletin Board Letters Templates – Cutting letters out of paper can be a difficult task. Especially for the handwriting style of letters with lots of curves. Here are some tips to cut them better.

1. First, you need a paper cutter and a cutting mat. Make sure the cutter is sharp to get a clean cut.

2. Print a template with clean edges. If you write them by hand, be sure to make the edges of the letters visible and easy to trace.

3. Start with a smaller piece and cut them first. For example, letters like ‘a’, ‘o’, ‘p’, ‘d’, ‘b’ have small holes in them so you need to cut out the holes inside first.

4. When cutting a corner like inside a ‘y’ or under a ‘t’ bar, cut away from the point in both directions for a cleaner result.

5. If you need to cut a tight curve, use the tip of the cutter to make small cuts. A single cut is difficult to achieve and unless you are very careful and experienced, attempting a continuous cut can result in an accident.

1. Start with the basics, you can use scissors. This tool is easy to use and comfortable to hold, but it has its drawbacks, such as it is very difficult to make precise straight lines, especially for smaller objects and letters.

2. Still very basic, you can use the Exacto Knife. This is one of the most common tools for cutting paper. It consists of a very sharp blade and is available in different sizes. With the help of a ruler, you can finely and easily cut a straight line.

3. The papercraft trimmer is a more advanced tool for cutting papers. To use this tool, place the paper under the blade track and run the blade. With convenient built-in measurement, this tool provides accurate cuts quickly. The only downside is that you may need to replace the blade often to avoid tearing the paper from the dull blade.

To cleanly cut the paper, lay the paper on a flat surface. Better if you have a cutting board/mat. To cut straight lines, you can use a ruler. A metal ruler is the best choice to use.

Make sure your cutting blade is sharp. Finally, don’t put too much pressure on the knife while cutting as it can drag and tear the paper instead of cutting it cleanly.

The teacher-child job I remember most vividly was tracing my mother’s boy’s letters (which were letters in funky designs cut out of tagboard), onto various construction papers, laminating and CUTTING.

Man! How much I despised cutting. Well, here I am. An adult. Even teachers. Cut out letters with funky designs.

We’ve come a long way from my mother’s typeface designs and the die-cut machine with boring, run-of-the-mill letters.

But I still cut my own letters. In today’s world, we’ve managed to knock one step down… tracking!

You might think this is the easy part, but for me it was the hardest. So many fonts to choose from! KG Fonts, Hello Fonts, Cupcake Fonts, MTF Fonts … the list goes on.

I like to use PowerPoint for all my documents. So after I choose my font, I type in the letters I want for my bulletin board. I like PowerPoint because it is (in my opinion) the easiest program to use when using text boxes. I can format my letters more easily to fit more on a page.

Make sure your letters are sized correctly. If you want them big, then measure. If you don’t need them, try to fit more on one page. You can use a vertical template or a horizontal template to use larger fonts or smaller fonts.

Make sure to make the letter white or “no fill” and make the outline of the letter black. This is what happens with tracing because only the outline is shown when you print.

You can also thicken the outline of the letter so you can add a black line to the title of your bulletin board (see an example below).

I love using Astrobrights for my paper! If you want black letters, add another step. You can print your letters from your computer on white paper. Next, take black construction paper (cut to size) and copy the letters from the white paper onto the black construction paper from a copier. You can also print the letters in black fill from your printer. But it takes a lot of ink!

You can also laminate for durability. I would laminate before cutting, then cut once the paper is laminated. Small haircut, remember?

I love creating fun and interactive bulletin boards. If you’re looking for more ideas, check out my favorite elementary school bulletin boards. I know you’ve seen them on your social media. And I know you’re thinking, these are adorable, but I don’t have a cricut® and I’m never going to buy a cricut®, so I’ll never be able to make these beautiful bulletin board letters. And then you hang your head and think about all the other things you don’t have in your life, like the Ford Mustang convertible, the Instapot, the private jet, and Tieks. (I really want a pair of Tieks).

Bulletin Board Letters For The Classroom

The fonts you have installed on your computer are probably not the ones you want for your bulletin boards. You want yours to be crazy and beautiful, so you need to find something to install on your computer. The first font I used in this tutorial is from Hello Literacy Fonts on Teachers Pay Teachers and is called Hello Texas. (You need to download all his fonts in a zip and select Hello Texas or another font you want to use). I love Hello Literacy’s fonts for many reasons – but most importantly for you, her fonts are available for free download for personal use. That means

You can use his fonts in your classroom. I can’t stress enough how important it is to read the terms of use that every font designer writes. Here is Jens from Hello Literacy:

Terms of Use: You may use my Hello font for personal or classroom, non-commercial and non-profit use only, as long as you do not sell your creation. You can also use the Hello fonts in your free TpT items if you give me credit and a link to my font page (www.jenjonesfonts.com) on your confirmation page (I’ve included clipart for this in the -download). Please do not provide my fonts as a how-to or include them as raw .ttf files in one of your product packages. Please do not share or email my font files, but direct your font-loving friends to this page to download them for themselves.

I think it’s pretty awesome, and so if you decide to use his fonts for this project, go ahead and be sure to show some love by leaving feedback. I have a commercial license for this font (and more) as I use them in my product creation (you can check out my store here).

At this point you can play with the size. I wanted two letters to fit on one piece of letterhead, so 550 worked for me. Using a different font requires a different size. If you want bigger letters, you can use slide in portrait mode. I stayed in landscape mode because many of my letters are actually wider than they are tall.
