Elf Shoes Pattern – We love mixed media art projects. Last winter we made several mixed media artworks including a Christmas village, a snow bird house and even a cute and stuffed penguin. This year we started our first sure Christmas project with these adorable elf shoes. We say elf shoes, but the fun and focus is on the tights. Get out the paint, newspaper, markers and anything else you can think of and make your own cute and fun elf project.

Elf Shoes Pattern
There are many design choices you can make. We have done a few different mixed media projects ourselves. Here are a few. I started with a piece of watercolor paper and painted a background with watercolors. While the paint dried I started cutting and designing the elf’s shoes and tights.

I cut a pair of elf tights and then a few different strips of scrapbook paper.
Scrapbook pieces made perfect stripes for elf tights. I placed the two leg shapes next to each other and then glued strips of different colors and designs on both legs until the legs were covered.
When they were finished I flipped the whole thing over and cut around the leg shapes to remove all the extra scrap.
When the paint on the background was dry, I cut up some newspaper and used it in the background of our snowy hills. Then I glued all the elf pieces to the background. Instead of cutting balls for the ends of the shoes, I chose pom poms.

My daughter made one too. She did not use the printed version, instead she drew her own elf shoes and tights on a piece of white paper.
She drew lines around her tights and then drew patterns in them. I loved this idea and followed it right before she changed her mind and decided to prefer plain stripes.
She used gel pens to color in each strip. The bright and sparkling colors of the gel pens were very effective for this project and looked amazing.
As she assembled her pieces on a piece of construction paper, she said her tights weren’t long enough, so she lengthened her design with the pins up.

She finished her elf shoes and tights and added some Christmas ornaments to finish it off.
I loved the idea of the Sharpie designs in the tights stripes, so I copied my girlfriend’s idea and made another one too.
