3d Reindeer Scroll Saw Pattern – Just in time for the holidays I’ll show you how to make cute reindeer ornaments out of wood. Make a bunch of them for your Christmas tree, fireplace mantel, windowsill, or give them as gifts or stocking stuffers.

A small block of wood, e.g. 3-3/4″ by 1-3/8″ by 3/4″ – Walnut, oak, cherry, or whatever you have.

Start with a block of wood and lay out the front and side profiles of the reindeer from the template. The wood grain needs to run lengthwise.

Print the template in the size you want. You can trace the template onto the block using carbon paper, or you can cut it out and glue it to the block of wood. If you plan to make many reindeer figures, transfer the model to a piece of cardboard or thin plywood and use them for your base as we did in the pictures.

The front profile goes to the narrow side of the block. Mark the reindeer on the horn line (shown in the model) in the front and side profile, to align them well with each other, see photo. Be sure to leave enough clearance between the reindeer and the edge of the log in the front profile; Each side of the waste must be extinguished in one piece, see the next step.

4. Make one cut along the lateral profile from the legs to the bottom of the horn to meet the previous cut.

6. Cut waste on each side must be removed individually; Save them for the next step.

Cutting the side profile requires you to press both waste pieces from the previous step back into your reindeer-progress. This will give you a flat surface for your next cuts, and will create a base for you to follow the band saw. Use some scotch tape to wrap around the three parts and tie them together to cut the side profile.

5. Make a circular cut at the top of the horn up to the forehead to meet the cut 1.

Remove rough edges and blade saw ‘fussy’ with sandpaper or nail emery board. Be careful to protect the horns and legs.

The reindeer must be able to stand on its own. Attach a hook if you want to hang it on your Christmas tree.

Here’s what you need to do to get into this woodworking job. First, print out our wooden reindeer pattern. It’s completely dimensional, so don’t make the pattern too big or too small. If you are going to make a lot of reindeer, place the design on a wooden form so that it will allow a lot of searching. Set a 3/16”, 10 TPI blade on the band saw. Trace the pattern onto the 2×4, make one cut, press the pieces back together, and cut the second. A little sand, and your deer is ready.

Rinding is made using a bend on a band saw. Composite cutting is a great way to produce 3D objects, and the bandsaw is the perfect tool for this.
