2112 Album Cover – This is a believable omission from the band’s longtime artistic director. As he notes, predicting which images will become icons is foolishness – only time can tell this story. On this occasion, he modestly dismisses the praise for the cover, instead directing credit to the ambitious fourth album of the prog-rock trio – specifically “2112”, a 20-minute science-fiction epic that deals with themes of liberation and oppression.
“As an artist or art director, if you ask me what I think about the cover, I look back on it as something beautiful to create, very primitive,” Sime UCR says. “But somehow I instinctively tapped into my conversations with [drummer-songwriter] Neil [Beard] about the arc of his story: the content of a hero facing off against an evil red star and the solar system.”

The cover features a glowing star and a galactic background with the band name and album title in a circle above. Ironically, a distinctive feature is found in the folder where the “Starman” character – played by “only” Syme’s friend Bobby King – faces a shooting star. (King became semi-confident on the Rush covers: “He reappeared on the wings of Exit… Stage Left and was the main trio on the cover of Moving Pictures – it’s obvious,” says Sime. He put his good will … and his cheap modeling fees to good use ..”)

Sime notes that he “didn’t ignore” Peart’s lyrical cover idea, but the final product gave the lyrics more realism. “It’s one of the few cards I call marquise where the title takes up a lot of space,” he says. “The administration loves it for that reason. As my seventh grade art teacher used to say, “Fill the space.”
One of his final works, one of the band’s most famous output: “Starman” later appeared on several Rush covers: it is above Peart’s drum kit on their 1976 live album,
If you squint at one of the 1981 drug pictures, you’ll see it pop up.
“He definitely made history with music,” he says. “He is recognizable for this beautiful album. I think music plays a big part in any credit given to folk art.”

“My favorite [comparison] is the cover of Blind Faith, an art deco mask ornament with an airplane and a bitter cutout [on their 1969 album],” he adds. “It’s quite a primitive technical feat, but a memorable and impressive cover. I think some elements of the art have earned their place in history – in this case, it was born more from the music, and the cover follows that example.” 2112 is one of the most musically creative and engaging progressive rock albums I’ve ever heard. Rush’s musical prowess is second only to their longevity, as this album still combines stunning musicality and thought-provoking lyrical content to this day.
, an extensive piece that lasts over twenty minutes. Based on Ayn Rand’s novel Anthem, “2112” tells the story of a dystopian future where all forms of media, books, and music are “controlled and controlled by the ‘Red Star Federation Priests’ from the Temple.” Syrinx. The hero of the story stumbles upon a guitar that is completely new to him and realizes his ability to create, think and explore. When he tries to give his gift to the priests, they dismiss it as a waste of time and destroy the guitar in an attempt to appease the people. After the destruction of the hero, he is greeted by an oracle that, by conjuring images of cities, paintings and sculptures, shows the true potential of man and the creative power of humanity. Distraught and grieving, the hero comes to the conclusion that life under the Confederacy is not worth it and takes his own life.
Rush’s incredible story is enhanced by incredible music. This album is at the beginning of their ten-year career, but still shows incredible talent and vision. Part I – The Overture opens with the iconic whistling of an intergalactic synthesizer, and the whole piece goes through many acts of history, ending with Part VII – The Grand Finale, one of Rush’s finest displays of talent. The sheer epic vibe of the ending always amazes me.
The B-side consists of five non-series songs that are often overlooked compared to the density of the A-side. Favorite

, Neil Peart’s lyrics really inspire me, and Alex Lifeson’s guitar playing and Geddy Lee’s bass playing are just stunning.
The cover is simple and shows the name of the band along with the album title. Gatefold features lyrics and the now-famous “Starman”, which has become the band’s trademark since its release. 2112 is a fantastic album that forces the audience to think, listen and ask questions. If you haven’t heard this album yet, I highly recommend it, and for those who have had the opportunity to listen to it again.
