West Africa, Western Africa includes Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cabo Verde, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. West Africa is the term used.

To name a geographical region of Africa The term West Africa is also often used for this part of the continent. West Africa is primarily a political and economic name. and includes all areas considered here. except Cameroon, Chad, Equatorial Guinea and the sub-Saharan Africa of Mali, Mauritania, and Niger.
The region can be divided into several broad physical regions. North West Africa comprises a large area known as West Sudan. It stretches 2,500 miles (4,000 km) from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Lake Chad region in the east. and is surrounded by the Sahara Desert (desert) in the north and the forests of the coast of Guinea in the south. Rainfall in the region ranges from 10 inches (250 mm) in the arid north to 50 inches (1,250 mm) in the south. The name Sahel in the north and a mixture of tall trees and tall savannah in the south. Southwest of Sudan is the equatorial forests of the Guinea coast. which extends from the Atlantic coast and inland for a distance of 100 to 150 miles (160 to 240 km).
Much of the Sahara Desert and its southern transition (Sahel and Western Sudan) is drained with enough rainfall to support surface currents or south of it. Through the Niger River System or inland to the Lake Chad River in the east . On the inland Atlantic coast. The distinctive feature is (from west to east) Mauritania-Senegal Basin which crosses the Senegal River Fouta Djallon and the Guinea Mountains; Volta River and the coastal plains of the Niger River and the highlands of Nigeria’s Jos Plateau and Cameroon’s mountains.
Traditionally, the people of most regions were one of the three main language families. in the northern part of the Sahara and the smallest Arabs and Imasigens (Berber; singular amazik) of the Afro-Asiatic language family predominate. South of the line connecting the Senegal River niger river and the southern two-thirds of Nigeria. The Niger-Congo language is spoken. In the middle of the Niger River and around Lake Chad, the Nilo-Saharan language associated with Far Eastern languages predominates. These peoples are divided into complex ethnic mosaics. But they can usually be easily distinguished according to each person’s language.

Parts of Chad in the northern part of the African transition zone are similar to North Africa. Off the coast of Mauritania are the Cape Verde Islands. which together form an independent country in Africa Cape Verde was a former Portuguese colony and gained independence in 1975. Western Sahara fought for independence from Morocco. and is often associated with the North African region due to its Islamic influence and its relationship with Morocco.
