Further along the river live various species of wildlife, some of which are on the verge of extinction, such as the Texas blind salamander and the San Marcos salamander.
After your dip in the river, you can take advantage of the many amenities at Rio Vista Park. These include basketball courts, tennis courts, pavilions, restrooms, walking/biking trails and a municipal pool.

Although it is widely known for its many water parks, your visit to New Braunfels would not be complete without a trip to the Comal River. The Komal River is a stunning water source that has fascinated locals and tourists for generations.
It is praised for its calm waters, constant water temperature of 72 degrees and good river levels for tubing and swimming. Plus, it’s one of the cleanest rivers in Texas, if not the US!
With some of the best mountain views in Texas, the 200-mile Frio Rover is a respite from the busy river in the heart of Texas. It is located in a remote area that allows you to enjoy the afternoon sun in peace. Best of all, the water is deep and cold (hence the name Frio, which means “cold” in Spanish).
You’ll also find a hidden swimming spot just one kilometer from Konkan, set on a massive 450-hectare family ranch. The owners kindly welcome visitors, but only 30 at a time. So, no matter how famous it is, this hidden swimming hole will be a quiet place for you.

The South Llano River is located northwest of Austin, Texas and is approximately 105 miles long. This is a great fishing spot as it offers excellent fishing opportunities for channel catfish, largemouth bass, panfish, stocked rainbows, Guadalupe bass and more.
You can also swim, canoe, kayak, and relax by the sandy area to cool off. The water is clear, clean, cold and almost always suitable for paddling, except during rain and drought.

As the 11th longest river in the United States, it’s no surprise that the Brazos River is home to a diverse population of fish. From largemouth to white bass to sunfish, there are several good species to catch, especially along the river dams that make up Whitney Lakes, Granbury Lakes and Possum Kingdom Lake.
If you’re not into fishing, don’t worry. Tubing is quite popular on the Brazos River, especially near Waco. Swimming is allowed, but be careful in the creek that runs through Fort Bend County. Currents can be very dangerous and many drownings have been reported in the area.

The Nueces River is one of the cleanest and most beautiful rivers in Texas. Extending 315 miles from the Edwards Plateau region of Texas, the Nueces flows southeast into the Gulf of Mexico.
The water is clear, cold and sparkling, making it a popular spot for fishing, wildlife photography, camping and swimming!
The local swimming hole, called “Quince”, is calm and manageable with a medium depth of water (15 in English). You can even go snorkeling if you want!
They say good things come in small packages and nothing describes that like the Medina River! Although it is small and narrow with an average width of about 30 to 40 feet, it is full of personality.

The Neches River flows through the Big Thicket National Preserve in southeast Texas and empties into the Sabine River. It is approximately 416 miles long, which defines the boundaries of 14 US counties.
The Neches River is often referred to as the last wild river in East Texas. It is home to more than 47 mammals, 300 species of birds, 200 species of trees, and countless reptiles and amphibians. The Neches River is an ideal place for bird watching, hunting and enjoying all that nature has to offer, if not swimming.
Public hunting for snipe, waterfowl, rails, woodcock is permitted on the Neches River. If you plan to hunt in the Neches, bring a valid hunting permit.
About The River
The Sabine River is known for discharging the largest amount of water in all of Texas. It drains an area of over 9,700 square miles, of which 7,400 square miles are in Texas and 2,300 square miles in Louisiana.
The Texas Sabine River Authority has established several recreational facilities throughout the area for swimming, picnicking, fishing and boating. Be aware of currents as several people have drowned in the Sabine River swimming area.
The largest and longest river in Texas is the Rio Grande, which is 1,896 miles long, of which 1,250 are in Texas. It begins in south-central Colorado and flows through New Mexico and Texas, emptying into the Gulf of Mexico. It is the 4th largest river in the country.
There is no consensus on the cleanest rivers in Texas, but there are usually three: the San Marcos River, the Guadalupe River, and the Nueces River.
