The small caption template is designed to fit on standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper or card stock. After cutting, each letterhead will be 3.5 inches in diameter. 8 graduation caps are printed on each page.

First, print a small assignment cap template on 8.5 x 11 inch card stock. Depending on the color and thickness of the paper you choose, you can also print directly on the last used paper.

Here are some fun glitter cardstock packages that I found and I think they look really fun.

After printing and cutting out the templates, you can trace them onto the final paper and cut them out again.

Then you can stick toothpicks or small lollipops on the back of the graduation cap and stick them on the already frosted cupcakes.

You can choose a classic black graduation cap or use your school colors for fun.

The craft itself is very simple and requires tools that you probably already have at home. I’ve included step-by-step instructions and pictures, along with a template, below.

First, let me note that there are two measurement methods for creating this hat. One is to measure by hand, like I did. The second is to follow the template I made for you. Sign up below to receive it by email.

How To Make A Paper Graduation Cap

The first step in making a cap is to cut a square cap, two cap strips, tassel pieces and a fringe. I chose black for my letter cap and yellow for my fringe.

Then glue the fringe and the fringe clip (I honestly don’t know what it’s called) to the center or square of the base of the hat.

Two cap strips must be attached. You can glue them or glue them by covering them. I preferred to glue them because the glue usually separates when you bend the paper.

Now you will need to fold the top of the straps all the way around as this will be the lip that will attach to the cap.

After folding, pull it back to make a 90-degree angle and cut triangle shapes in your mouth. This does not have to be a perfect measurement, but it allows the curve to be bent and shaped more easily.

Then you need to create a crown with a circle and connect the ends with tape or glue.

The last step is to glue the edge of the cap strip to the center of the cap. Congratulations, you have a graduation cap!

I promised to explain myself. After doing this work myself, I wanted to create a template to make it easier for them, so I included all the necessary elements in the file. However, you have the option to measure only your dimensions, mainly square, rectangle and possibly circle. The tassel has a tricky shape.

So if you choose to follow the template, you will end up with an 8″x8″ cap with two 2.5″x9.75″ cap strips. But if you prefer to measure by hand, you can use standard paper size (at least US) and have a cap of 8.5″ x 8.5″. You can then use the remaining 2.5″x8.5″ strip for one of the panels and cut one 2.5″x11″ panel, or cut two 2.5″x11″ panels.

If this confuses you and I just sent you back to geometry class, then sorry, ignore this section and talk about the template.

Fringe version: lift the fringe, then tie it with the end of the dental floss.

Use the straight edge of the fabric and make a small hole in the center of the foam core. Use a toothpick to push the knot on the other end of the floss through the hole. Place the crest garland so that about 1 cm of wire hangs over the side of the hat. Inside the hat, if necessary, tie a knot to secure. Push your bra through the hole at the top of the hat to secure the string. This tutorial shows you how to make a cap and diploma out of print paper and ribbon. It is very easy and cheap.
