A lighter pencil, such as 2H or 3H, is suitable for starting. A blunt pencil works best because it glides easily over the paper when sketching basic shapes. Keep your movements smooth and relaxed throughout this process. After all, roses are living things, and keeping that mindset will guide you every step of the way.
How To Draw A Rose Step By Step
Draw the basic outline of the flower. Not exactly a perfect circle. It just needs to be round. Add a guide to mark the center of the rose. My guide is a round diamond.
A rose is a bunch of petals that spread outwards from the center. Petals open wider as they move away from the center.
Start with small, dense petals that fit into the center guide. Remember, this is just a sketch. Details will be added later.
Petals do not grow in a pattern or form neat straight rows. Instead, they alternately overlap and become larger and wider away from the center.
Ways To Draw A Rose
Once the base sketch is complete, I begin to emphasize the anatomy of the petals. Use a red sharpie to add details and outlines.
After recreating the sketch, it’s time to modify it a bit. Rose petals are bent and grow unevenly. Use a combination of straight lines and curves to create the character of each petal.
Think of each petal as a separate entity with its own story. Each petal can even seem to age at its own rate.
Some are perfectly curvilinear and rounded. Some have corners. Others may have small tears or tears. Petals may curl or wrinkle.

A seemingly simple line can convey a lot. Rows are a language, so the difficulty of each row is interesting to play with. Keep the pencil sharp and press to darken certain areas and make others fluid and loose. Change creates volume and movement.
Continue creating variations until the rose is complete. Learning how to draw a rose is just as easy. Repeat these steps on your sketchbook pages to create gorgeous roses. Just like real roses, know that each one is lovely because each one is unique and unique.

How To Draw A Rose: A Step By Step Guide
Draw an oval and start coloring the rose. Nothing in nature has to be perfect. No matter how you draw it, your rose will look great.
Draw a small spiral inside the oval. The direction of the helix is not important, nor is the number of turns.
Draw a heart around the spiral. Start by touching the heart cleft to the oval. Again, don’t worry about the shape of the heart. Left and right don’t have to look the same.
The other parts of the heart don’t have to touch the oval, but that’s okay.
How To Draw A Rose For Beginners
Draw a line along the heart shape – start at the top, make a nice curved shape (like a very loose S). Make a sharp (V) shape. And take it to heart.
Make the same shape for the other end of the heart. Draw a line to touch the previous shape, this time without the sharp end.
Then draw a U-shaped shape (the top can be slightly curved). Can you see your rose blooming?
Add some details. Draw a curve from the top of the V to the bottom of the flower.

Also add two lines connecting the oval and the heart. If the “heart shape” does not touch the oval on the sides.
