Five Year Life Plan Template – Studies show that people who write down their plans are 33% more likely to meet them. But it can be difficult when someone asks you, “Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?” If you’re anything like me, this question left you confused, so I embarked on a journey of writing a 5 year plan as many professionals suggest. My first task was to figure out what a five-year plan was. Your plans don’t have to be just career goals. After looking at the examples, I conclude that everything can be grouped into five groups: career, bucket list, financial, family, and personal. My second task is to realize that you can’t really plan five years without knowing your life plan. It would be like writing 5 chapters of a story without deciding on the plot of the story.
Write down all the life goals you want to achieve. Do you want to create your own company? Learning a language? Have a family? Write it all down and don’t be afraid to dream big. After all, this is a lifetime we are talking about! You can do a lot!

Look at what you write for your life goals. Now, what’s between where you are now, and where you want to be? If your life goals seem far from where you are now, think about your first few small steps. If you want to have your own retail store, get a retail job and aim for a manager! Want to be a writer? Write the first draft for your first book! Everyone starts somewhere.

When it comes to your personal life, do you have a five-year plan? In the most stressful moments of my life, planning brought me great joy and peace. But who says you have to wait for stress to happen? In this article, we’ll explain why you should create a five-year plan and how to create a plan that you’ll stick with. What’s the 5 year plan? A five-year plan is an outline of the professional and/or personal goals you want to achieve over the next five years. It usually includes broad goals related to career, relationships, health and finances broken down into action items and milestones. Benefits of a 5-Year Plan Whether professional or personal, a five-year plan can act as a reset for your life. Who doesn’t love a fresh start? After all, that’s why New Year’s resolutions are so popular. They give us something to look forward to. Something can also be said about writing detailed plans. This can be a great motivator to get things moving. Personally, I have said many times that I want to master Spanish. However, it wasn’t until I wrote a detailed plan of how it would become real. This brings us to our next point: clarity. Sometimes, a road looks scarier than it really is because we don’t really know what it looks like. Making plans is like pointing a flashlight down a dark street. A more accurate description would be that the dark and winding road turned into a clear path forward. That doesn’t mean there won’t be bumps in the road but at least you’ll know where you’re going to land and how to get there. Finally, a five-year plan can serve as a reminder of what is at stake. In your everyday life, it is easy to forget that every day, we are shaping our future. The decisions we make today affect what our lives will look like years from now. Having these visual reminders can help you stay focused on your goals. Free Resources Free 5 Year Plan Template Fill out the form to get started. The obvious “why” is your north star. This is what will guide you along your journey and motivate you to keep moving forward. It may take some time to reduce it. You’ll know you have an answer when it’s connected to a core value or belief. If not, you’ll have to keep digging. One way to approach this is to ask questions over and over again. Example: I want to learn American Sign Language. Why? To better connect with other cultures. Why? To broaden my horizons. Why? Become a more understanding, tolerant and inclusive person. Now, we’ve taken something on a superficial level and taken it to a personal, human level. 2. Choose your destination. When creating a five-year plan, you want to review your entire life and decide what your goals will be. Are you focused on your professional career, your financial goals, or your spiritual growth? Or maybe you take a more holistic approach and incorporate all of these elements. If you don’t know where to start, use this: “In five years, I want to be [fill in the blank].” This will help you find a destination that you may not have talked about before. There are four main pillars that you should always consider: Career health (physical and mental) Financial relationships (with yourself and others) Depending on your goals, you may also have categories for religious or spiritual growth, recreation and ministry. Don’t forget the bucket list item – do you want to learn a new language? Or maybe you want to visit every country in the world. The bucket list item is perfect for a five-year plan because you can spread it over a longer period of time and have fun tracking your progress. 3. Start with big ideas and then narrow your focus. When you first write your five-year plan, start with an end goal for each year. From there, break down by: Process: What steps will you take to achieve this ultimate goal? Success Metrics: How do you measure success? Benefits: How does this ultimate goal bring you closer to your five-year plan? Resources: What resources will you use to achieve your goals? This process will help you turn your broad ideas into clear action items that can be implemented. Research will play a big role in this, as you will need to identify resources and establish a framework to achieve your goals. For example, let’s say your five-year financial plan is debt-free. That’s a great idea but you have to dive deeper. How did you get it? Your research will likely suggest setting a budget, paying off your most expensive debt first, consolidating your debt, and more. Once you know the main action items, you can group them by year. This is S.M.A.R.T. Target in action. The more specific you are, the better off you will be at achieving your five-year plan. More on this in the next section. 4. Make S.M.A.R.T. To give you the best chance of success, each goal must pass the SMART exam. This means: Be Specific – The more vague your goal is, the harder it will be to achieve. Measurable – You need to be able to measure your goals because otherwise how will you know if you have achieved them? This doesn’t necessarily mean giving him an image, it can also be a feeling. Achievable – While it’s good to push yourself beyond your limits, your goals should be achievable and realistic based on where you stand now. Related – How do these goals fit into the bigger picture? Does it match your personal values? How does it affect your life? Timeline – It’s not enough to say it’s a five year plan, you have to create a timeline and set milestones at certain points in your journey.
