Flannel Friday: Two Big Elephants

This puppet template is only 2 sheets. One is the upper part of the head and the other part is attached in one piece inside the body and mouth. This way it is very easy to cut and you can open and close the mouth to make your doll look like it is talking. Only 2 pieces to cut!

This zip file includes both a black and white version so you can color it yourself and the full color version you see in the images. You’ll get both sets in 3 formats so they work for everyone!

It’s not just fun to color and assemble, it’s also fun to play with – and combined with our other dolls from the same range, it gives children plenty of room for fun dramatic play.

Start by printing out the printable template for the elephant puppet. We recommend that you print it on heavy printing paper, but regular printing paper will work just as well.

Color the doll. Color only the middle third of the sheet, as the other two thirds won’t be visible when the puppet is folded (there’s nothing wrong with coloring it all).

Also color “Accessories” on the second page. There are many different colors you can choose from, we think gray or blue work best for elephant skin, but you don’t have to limit yourself to “realistic” colors.

Elephant & Piggie Finger Puppets

We usually run a craft stick over all the folds to make them really crisp. This makes folding the puppet much easier.

Open all the folds. Let the design side face the table. Fold a left wing, or right one, over the middle and glue the folded third.

Fold the other “third” over the top of the one you just glued on. Press down to set the glue.

With the valley fold along the inside of the mouth, the M shape should look like this.
