Roses are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful (and most delightfully fragrant) flowers. We wanted to make it simple and beautiful at the same time to convey the essence of this flower. This one has a bit more steps than our usual guides, as we wanted to make it so clear and simple that watching roses might seem more difficult (it’s not, I promise).

How To Draw A Rose For Beginners

This has been tested by several beginners and they were all surprised and excited by how wonderful their roses turned out (so we are very, very happy with how we developed this tutorial).

Start drawing the rose by drawing an oval. It doesn’t have to be perfect, because there is nothing in nature. No matter how you draw it, your rose will look great.

Draw a small spiral inside the oval. The direction of the helix is not important, nor is the number of turns.

Draw a heart around the spiral – start at the top so that the hole in the heart touches the oval. Again, don’t worry about the shape of the heart, the left and right sides don’t have to look the same.

The other parts of the heart should not touch the oval shape, but there is nothing wrong with that.

Draw a line following the shape of the heart – start at the top and make a nice curved shape (like a very loose S). Make a pointed (V) shape. and bring to the depths of the heart.

Make a similar shape on the other end of the heart, this time without the pointed tip, draw a line so that it touches the previous shape.

Now draw a U-shape (you can make it slightly curved at the top). Do you see your rose bloom?

Add some details. Draw a curved line from the tip of the V to the base of the flower.

Also add two lines connecting the oval to the heart shape – if your “heart shape” doesn’t touch the sides of the oval.

To draw roses, it is important to know a little anatomy, as we did in the lesson on drawing leaves. Because there is no better reference when we draw something than the real thing.

Ways To Draw A Rose

Most of my rose sketches are based on live references from real flowers, so let’s look at the parts of a rose:

First we’ll look at what you need to start drawing because while you can draw these doodles with whatever you have on hand, if you’re ready to test something else, here’s a list of everything I use to draw , outline and marker.

If you’re looking for sketch paper, this HP paper strip, which I recommend starting with brush calligraphy, is also great for doodles, you can also use tracing paper to “layer” and adjust your drawings. I also recommend this magazine if you don’t have one and this notebook if you want to add watercolor details or want to make sure your pages don’t bleed since you can color and draw on both sides of the pages, that’s great, got it! .

Below are some of my favorite tools, but as I always say, just start with what you have, even if it’s a napkin and a pen. Start drawing and sketching now, buy materials later =]

If you’d like to work on your iPad instead, you can see a list of my current digital painting settings and recommendations here. Here you can also read all about the Procreate brushes I use and recommend.

I love the thickness of this mechanical pencil (0.5mm), I always keep it in my travel case (unless my boys steal it). The grip is very comfortable, and changing the lead to a softer one will give you more control and nuance.

I love having them on hand when I want to sketch something very quickly, and the 0.7mm size is my favorite! And while they come with HB leads like any other mechanical pencil, you can add different softness leads. I like to add strikers and I have them in different colors to separate the wires.

This is my absolute favorite eraser, I first bought it when I was still in college in Chile, it was an old version but with the same concept. I like that the shape of the eraser gives you three sharp points that you can use for more precision, in my opinion it’s much better than the round ones. It’s also a good alternative if you don’t have an eraser.

There are some things that once you find a brand you like, you just stick with it and never look back. For me, these are Staedtler erasers. I’ve been using them since my early college years and absolutely love them!

If you want to experiment with pencils of different softness, this set includes 6 graphite pencils of different softness, 3 charcoal pencils, 1 drawing stick, 4 charcoal sticks, 1 pencil sharpener, 1 charcoal sharpener, 1 nag eraser and 1 white plastic eraser .

If you are looking for an even more complete option that is also very economical, this package offers just about everything you need (including paper). It even comes with a bag so you can carry all your pencils and tools.

This pack is great for lettering because you get a wide range of thicknesses as well as a brush pen, so if you want to start writing but aren’t sure if brush calligraphy is right for you, just grab this and start practicing with the included one. here. There are quite a few of them too! (Instead of buying them individually)

I love that this pen is refillable (gas station sold separately) but if you work a lot, something like this is very handy, I used SO MANY pens until I found a refillable fountain pen like this. They’re not that cheap at first, but worth every penny in the long run.

I also came across these multiliners while technical drawing in college, but it took me a while to find them here. I like that these particular ones have a wide range of thicknesses, they are reusable and you can also change the tip. These features are great because I can only use a pen for a few days, so this feature really helps my wallet (and can save you a bunch!)

This brush set is by far my favorite when it comes to learning, it comes in soft and hard versions. Although the difference is small, a slightly thicker stroke can be made with a soft tip. They handle pressure incredibly well and if you use them with the right paper (check out my paper guidelines) they can last you a long time. They come in different colors, bright and very beautiful.

This is my second favorite fude brush pen and you can also get it in a variety of amazing colors which is always a plus! (you can see them in the links below) I love how durable they are and they lasted me a lot longer than I did.
