A master grocery list is pretty much what it sounds like…a list of the groceries and household items you buy frequently, with space to write down any additional items you might need. Think of it as a starting point when creating your grocery list because instead of spending time writing everything down from scratch, your list already includes things that are family staples.

But shopping from a list and ONLY the things you need from your list can help you save money by reducing the number of impulse items you buy. A few months ago my husband and I made it a challenge to only shop off our grocery list, and this month our grocery spending has dropped by a whopping 20%!
There’s nothing worse than spending an hour at the grocery store, only to come home to find that you forgot to buy an essential ingredient for tonight’s dinner and then head to the pantry to find a replacement.

But a master shopping list can save you time by reducing the number of trips to the store! And since you already have a grocery list ready, you don’t have to spend time creating it from scratch every week.
Plus, you can create your own master grocery list to match your grocery store layout, making grocery shopping so much easier! For example, if you go to the grocery department first and then the meat department, you can organize your grocery list by fruit and veg and then meat, so you don’t have to go through the entire list to find what you need in that department.
Creating your own master shopping list that you can refer to again and again is easy…just follow these steps:

Once you’ve got your grocery list organized, it’s time to transfer everything into the actual master grocery list template. If you want a fresh grocery list every week, you can print out several copies at once and keep them in a folder at home or in a kitchen drawer. Then you can post a new list to the front of the fridge or family command center at the beginning of each week and add things to the list throughout the week.
Then, when it’s time to head to the grocery store, your shopping list is already done for you! Just take it out of the fridge and go shopping!
If you run out of printer ink (who doesn’t, right?!), you can print and laminate just one copy of your list. I have this laminator and absolutely love it! This is one of my favorite gadgets that I didn’t even know I needed!
Then, hang your laminated grocery list on the front of the fridge and add items to the list throughout the week. The day you shop, write everything on your list on a separate piece of paper to take to the store. Or you can also use your cell phone to take a picture of the list for reference when you are in the store.
