Fabric Bird Patterns – A long time ago, when I lived in China, elderly men often carried poultry in beautiful wooden cages. I’ve never liked the idea of ​​birds in cages, but it was touching to see how lovingly these people treated their feathered companions. Over time I really fell in love with the cells themselves… Just before returning home I went to the cell market and bought one. I took it on a long flight to my parents for the whole world. Since I didn’t have my own permanent home yet, I left it there. And decades have passed. A few years ago, after visiting my parents, I took it on another long flight to another continent and put it in my sewing workshop without further ado.
I was planning to make a textile bird that would live in my cage. I bought Abigail Patner Glassenberg.
Fabric Bird Patterns

A few weeks ago while I was working on my owls, a very persistent bird pounded on my sewing shop window. He came and went for about two weeks, tapping, going, coming back, and tapping again for hours each day.
I was working on Ann Wood’s owl pattern and the bird reminded me that I also have a songbird pattern. So once I had the owls ready, I dusted off the songbird pattern and got to work.
I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the appearance of the wings either. So I decided to play with the pattern a bit like I did with the owl pattern to bring it closer to what I wanted. I have made three large birds and am very happy with how they turned out:
I tried to put the purple bird in the cage but even the stuffed bird looked too sad and caged. So I decided to put it next to the cage and leave the door open. Seems a lot happier now.

As for wildlife, I’ve never been an ornithologist, but I’ve been spending many hours in my garden since the start of the quarantine. I never thought that there are so many different species of birds here! While I don’t know who most of them are, I really enjoy their company, let alone their songs! I even bought a bird feeder to attract more birds…

Bird Ornament Pattern
These felt birds are filled with some polyester wadding on the inside, which gives them a three-dimensional look. We added a ready-made titmouse to this fun birdhouse using the driftwood that I now hang my keys on. As for the other felt birds, I’m thinking of turning them into ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree, or maybe make a cute garland out of them to hang in my breakfast nook.
