I don’t think I realized how much time and effort goes into caring for my guinea pigs, Jake and Finn, until I got them.

Guinea pigs are not difficult animals to care for, but they do require time and attention just like any other pet.

How To Look After A Guinea Pig

You should also exercise and interact with them daily and clean their cage every 3-7 days.

There are several options when it comes to guinea pig housing – you can use a commercial cage or make your own. Also, don’t forget to place the guinea pig cages in 2 or more places if you plan to house a lot of them!

Many guinea pig owners choose to make their own cages using coroplast and cube mesh because the materials are much cheaper than most commercial cages.

My guinea pigs were housed in a previously purchased house, but since I changed them to a larger coroplast and cube mesh cage, they have been much happier.

Easiest Way To Clean A Guinea Pig Cage

A single guinea pig needs at least 7.5 square feet of space, but a pair needs at least 7.5 square feet to 10.5 square feet.

RECOMMENDATION Try to get or make the biggest cage you can because bigger is always better. Avoid stress

Guinea pigs like to be quiet, so place the guinea pig cage in a room away from noise or in an open area.
