It is very easy to make these 3D snowflakes, and I will describe every step in detail for you.
As far as tape, I just go with some old scotch tape I found in the kitchen drawer.
Once you understand how to use a ruler to accurately measure your pattern, the whole process is very easy.
The first step in making your 3D paper snowflake is to make a square out of your paper.

If you’re using regular printer paper, like I did, just fold the top, shorter edge to meet the longer, straight edge of the paper.
Now that you have a nice triangle (or a square folded in half diagonally), you’ll want to mark the places for your cuts.
Then mark an inch-wide strip down the middle of the triangle, starting at the point and ending at the center of the piece.
After marking the center, line up your ruler with the short side of the unfolded triangle.

Then line up your ruler with the mark you just made and make another line from the center to the piece an inch away.
Draw a third line, another inch down, near the center of the page, but this time bring your line all the way to the center.
Once you’ve marked your lines on both sides, you can proceed to cut meaningful designs into your 3D snowflake.
Starting with the lines closest to the center, cut your paper along the lines, removing a square from the center of the page.
Printable Snowflake Templates
This is the only cut you will make that will remove any of the paper from now on.
You want to stop cutting when you reach the line you marked in the middle of the triangle.
As you can see, you now have three paper cut squares, ready to be turned into a 3D snowflake.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: Now remove all the paper, place your new roll face down, making sure it doesn’t get squashed.

IMPORTANT Again: Turn your paper over again, so that the original roll is facing up again, and be careful not to put down your second roll.
Roll the last two points of the remaining square over the small roll. Cross the points and secure them with tape.
Now repeat this whole process five times, so you have created six “pedals” for 3D paper snowflakes.
I did this by making two halves, and then connecting those halves together with mesh to make the space between all the petals.

If you use the standard 8.5 x 11 inch sheets to make your 3D snowflakes, they should be about 2 feet tall when you’re done.
You can easily make them bigger or smaller, just depending on the size of the paper you are using.
These 3D snowflakes are very cheap to make and for just a few dollars, you can decorate an entire room with them!
This project is great to use in a classroom! Because they are very easy to make, children pick up the process very easily.

You can also make them as outdoor decorations, but you have to make sure to use waterproof material instead of paper.
Laminated paper will work, or even some type of plastic. You just need to make sure that whatever you use is flexible enough to use.

All snowflake patterns are available as SVG, DXF, EPS, PNG, and PDF files. As a general size guide, when using a 12 X 12-inch square piece of paper, the diameter of the largest snowflake is about 11.5 inches wide and three inches thick. . Although it is not a large avalanche, when it accumulates it is quite large. When creating smaller snowflakes, they can be used as Christmas tree decorations for the holiday season.

To keep this craft easy, I’ve created six different 3D snowflake templates and step-by-step instructions for you. These templates are designed to be cut on an electronic cutting machine such as a Cricut or Silhouette Cameo. However, PDF patterns can be printed on a home printer and cut out by hand with scissors and a craft knife.
If you cut them out by hand, use 8½ X 11-inch white copy paper in your printer. A smaller sheet of paper will yield smaller snowflakes, about 8 inches in diameter. Square pieces of paper are best to use full paper, but after printing, you can cut them down to square sheets. If you use white cardstock paper, check your printer’s manual to confirm that it can handle heavier paper.

Cricut Design Space: Instructions for Cutting 3D Paper Snowflakes How to Open Snowflake Patterns in Cricut Design Space
Open Cricut Design Space and start with a blank canvas. Working on the left menu at the bottom, select Upload. Then select Upload Image. Select browse and select the SVG version of 3DSnowflake Patterns. These patterns are in the location you downloaded on your computer. If you’re not sure where you saved them, check your Downloads folder.
Once you have selected the 3D snowflake file, select open. Make sure there is a green box around it and select Upload (in the lower right corner). Your most recent uploads will appear on the left. Click on the image until it has a green box around it and then click the Add To Canvas button (bottom right).
Giant Paper Snowflakes — Easy & Fast Holiday Decor!
Now that you have the snowflake panels on your canvas, you need to make the canvas smaller to see all six panels. You can do this by clicking the (-100%+) button in the lower left corner. Select the minus key to zoom out far enough to see the snowflakes. Size (50%) is usually good to see everything.
The panels will be assembled when imported into the Cricut Design Space. The first step is to collect them. Click the UnGroup button at the top of the Layers panel on the right. Now you can access each snowflake individually.
At this point, we need to change all the black lines to score lines. Working in the layers panel, hold down your Command Key (Mac) or Control Key (PC) and then select all the black lines. With all your black lines selected, select the Operation drop-down menu (located in the top left menu). Now change the Basic Cut setting to Score. You can see that all the solid black lines have become dashed lines.
To connect the score lines to the snowflake panels, we need to connect the score lines and the snowflakes together. at the bottom of the Layers panel. Repeat this process for each of them
