It is very popular at Christmas and is often associated with Christmas Eve and St. St. Nicholas Day. It traditionally has a peppermint flavor and red and white stripes, but these days it comes in a variety of flavors and colors.
You can simply eat it as a candy, stir into hot chocolate, or hang it on the tree as a decoration.
Folklore says that the candy comes from Cologne, Germany. Where in 1670 On Christmas Eve, the choirmaster distributed candy canes to local children. To justify giving the candy, he asked the candy maker to put cabbage on top. This should be remembered by the shepherd’s children who visited the baby Jesus.
The first American reference to “sticky candy” is from 1837. Exhibitions of the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics’ Association. in 1844 the first peppermint candy bar recipe was published. The first candy cane was hung on the Christmas tree in 1882.

The easiest way to use our templates is as simple as sugar cane coloring sheets. Take our large printable candy outline and turn it into a simple candy coloring page.
The bigger the candy image, the easier it is for little ones to stay in line. If you have older kids, use smaller cane printables to make it more challenging.

Another great way to work with a candy cane template is to create a candy craft for preschoolers.
For each student, print out a large picture of a candy cane and color every other strip red. For the white part, prepare cotton balls or even white pom poms and let them stick to your cane art project.
When all of your students have finished creating, have them cut out their finished candy projects. Then tie them with clear tape or drill holes in the top. Once they are all firmly attached, you can hang them to decorate your classroom, hallway or living room.
If you prefer to work with real candy canes, you can even tie them together with some knots on the string and have a real candy garland!

Instead of working with our printable Christmas candy canes, you can also make your own toy candy canes using pipe cleaners and large wooden beads.
Make sure the beads are large enough to fit your pipe cleaner. You can use red and white beads for your cane pattern, but you can also switch it up and get creative!
