It is a partnership between Tim Burton and Disney. It is an animated film that tells the story of Jack Skellington, a living skeleton in Halloween Town who discovers the door to Christmas Town.

It’s no secret that characters can elevate a movie from average to amazing, and the characters in The Nightmare Before Christmas bring so much to an already incredible movie.

Jack Skellington is the leader of Halloween Town, but is tired of Halloween and scaring people. His body is a skeleton and his head is a carved pumpkin. He lives in a strange haunted house.

Boogie Boogie is the boogeyman. He lives in the shade of a tree and lives to scare. He is also responsible for the shadow on the moon. He supposedly oversees the collection of Halloween candy.

Zero is Jack Skellington’s ghost dog and his best friend. He has a bright orange pumpkin nose. He is always with Jack as a loyal companion. On a personal note, Zero is my favorite character in the movie!

Mad Scientist Dr. Sally is a “nightmare” creation and captive of Finkelstein, kidnapped and imprisoned by Oogie Boogie in the film. She is in love with Jack Skellington.

Courtney Wonder’s loss of a pumpkin-carving contest when she was 10 years old — potentially missing out on a candy grand prize — inspired her career in crafting Halloween designs in winter squash.

Pearland residents sell elaborately carved pumpkins, often inspired by movies or TV shows. Unlike the toothy vegetable jack-o-lanterns common every October, Wonder’s designs will become the ‘high fashion’ of the pumpkin world, taking scenes, mimicking posters or logos, and featuring fine lines and shading.

In some of her work, she has even depicted the pinstripes on Jack’s suit in “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and David Tennant’s hair and facial depth in “Doctor Who.” Carvings do not have saw-out openings like a typical jack-o-lantern. Instead, the layers are pulled away from the pumpkin skin to create a sense of depth because different amounts of light can reach through the skin.

Bring Back Jack Skellington With This Pumpkin Carving

Each pumpkin takes 10 hours to carve, she said. More detailed pumpkins will take longer. Some complex designs require up to 24 hours of work.

She went to Comicpalooza last summer, where she showed off her pumpkins, and some customers discovered her through the event.

“I’m so excited,” she said. “I lost my voice on the first day – there were so many people and everyone was so nice.”

Printable Nightmare Before Christmas Pumpkin Stencil

Wonder said she loved Halloween as a child, with its alluring promise of candy and costumes. She was getting dressed, and the young pumpkin-artist-child set up his pumpkin master carving kit.

“I always want to pick the best pattern and make the best pumpkin,” Wonder said. “And I stuck with it.”

With age came wisdom and, surprisingly, so did cool pumpkins. She said she kept the designs simple until college, when she got to more detailed patterns for her carvings. She said the first project that inspired her to push the limits was a Jack Sparrow pumpkin she made when the movie came out.
