Jonah And The Whale Kjv

Jonah And The Whale Kjv – This is perhaps one of the most unique settings of all the prayers in Scripture, and one that none of us would ever want to see. Jonah is the famous prophet who puts himself inside a whale (at least a big fish, the Bible doesn’t say that specifically). He made some bad choices, followed his head instead of the Holy Spirit, and got into a boat that God didn’t tell him to go into. The boat soon ran into bad weather and stormy seas. Jonah realized his mistake in obeying the orders of the people sent to preach to Nineveh. He knows that if he is not on the boat, the rest of the crew will survive. He was thrown overboard and Keith strangled him to death.

We know this story well. But have we ever seen anything like this in our lives? This usually goes like this:

5. We ask God for forgiveness and a chance to get rid of the mess we made

Why Are There So Many Bible Translations?

If you’re like me, you’ve walked the stairs 1-7 times or two (or fifty) in your life. This is the human condition we are all born with.

It’s ugly, and it puts us in very bad situations. Look at Jonah: Lying on the whale’s belly, with seaweed wrapped around his neck, something stinking inside the animal… because he chose to say no to God.

Today’s Bible prayer section can speak on many different levels. Some find it in whales, they are the result of bad choices and disobedience. There is something in Jonah’s prayer today. Others may have let go of the whale, but they still feel that they have let God down and that sin cannot go away. Jonah has something for you too. Finally, there are those who see the bad choices made by someone close to them and wonder what it would take for them to finally be free. To get out of the bad situation they are in. Jonah has something to comfort you today!

I called for help from the depths of the dead, and you heard my call. Jonah 2:1

As a prophet, Jonah has the right answers. He communicated with God. It was God’s word to save people from evil. That doesn’t mean he’s innocent. Men and women in leadership roles in the church are human and can easily go astray. God had made it clear to Jonah that he must go:

The word of the Lord came to Jonah, the son of Emmattai: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, for its wickedness has come before me.” Jonah 1:1

For whatever reason: perhaps fear, perhaps suspicion, perhaps prejudice against the people of Nineveh, Jonah decided to flee to the other side. His behavior is total rebellion against God.

The prayers in Jonah 2 are introspective, the words of a desperate man who may be separated from God. But even in his sins he knew that God was near. God would have allowed Jonah to drown. He would have started with someone else. He didn’t. In His grace, He allowed the fish to swallow Jonah, in which Jonah felt redeemed and given a second chance. As dark as the place where he sits, God is not far away. God is near. For you and me, this brings great hope. Jesus will never leave us in the thick of life. His presence is there, and all we have to do is call upon his name to make it right again.

Could A Human Survive Swallowing By A Whale Or Fish, Like Jonah?

At the end of my life, I remember you, Lord, and my prayers go to you, to your holy temple. Jonah 2:7

Sometimes we feel unworthy and unworthy when we stay in a place like Jonah and then come out of it. Obviously, this is a natural response, and there should be some acknowledgment of your inadequacy. We do not deserve God’s generosity in our lives. We had nothing to give him and we couldn’t get him back. But some people still feel guilty. Satan uses his worthlessness to say, “Look, you’ve gone too far. You mess things up and God will never use you.

The great thing about Jonah’s whale conversion experience is that it forces him to rely on God’s character rather than his own. He knows his sin. He knows without God, he is quick, messy, and will never be right. But…he remembers God! How often do we forget that we are made new when we believe in Christ? We are no longer ours, but His. His most precious possession. The same is true when an enemy hits.

Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit? not you You buy at a price. 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20

In these few short verses, Jonah knew that God was near, that he would restore him, and that there was finally hope in him. He ran the other way, fully expecting to avoid God’s call. I don’t know why he thought he could outdo God, but then again, I don’t know why I thought I could outdo him! We all take the path of Jonah at some point. We all believe that life is defined and we take it from here. But God knows better and knows that without His presence we would not last long in this life.

For some of you, this last point is difficult because it seems like a situation you (or someone else) has found yourself in

. It is beyond repair and beyond any degree of restoration. Let me tell you, from our limited capacity, everything

Except for repairs. We have no way to undo our damage. There is no way to bridge the great gap between us and our Father. But praise God that Jesus was sacrificed for us! His death covers all our sins…all of them. We like to categorize certain sins into major and minor. Some are easily forgiven, some may not be. But accepting Christ’s saving work is precious accepting it. Your sins will be remembered no more.

He has removed our sins from us as from the east to the west. Psalm 103:12

Of all the things I’ve written this year, this post is probably the most powerful salvation-type blog I’ve done in 2019. I spent some time thinking about what God has in store for me. I focus on the message of persistence, staying informed, and staying in this race for the long haul. But I know we face a common enemy, and Satan has focused on many people this year. He wants to break up the family. He wants to break up the marriage. He wants the fire and passion in our hearts to cool down just to be a fool.

So I end this week’s blog with a plea and a request. I would love to pray for you in any way I can. It is entirely within us. It is also unspeakable. But don’t carry any burden you carry alone. Jonah went into the whale’s belly, but Jesus was there. David said that he could not escape from God’s presence (Psalm 139:7-12). I want you to know that Christ is close to you in any situation. I want to support you in prayer and stay with you in space.

So the Son of Man will be in the center of the earth for three days and nights.
