Fox Costume Pattern – When my oldest son decided he wanted to be a skunk for Halloween, I had no choice but to dress up his brother. The smallest little old man I’ve ever seen.
I had a hard time finding the right shade of “orange/brown” fabric. I looked and looked and saw this bright red t-shirt in the men’s section at Wal-Mart. I bought two XXL shirts and took them to the cutting table. I reused my new favorite pattern, The Bimaa Sweater top. I sewed the brown fabric under the orange before cutting out the pattern. And I added the ears before changing the hoodie parts. I used an ear hook but I also did an extra step to set it up. After sewing the hoodie, I put the ears down and sewed straight stitches on top. Then I tilted my ear to one side and put some earplugs in my ear. They are standing well now!

For the pants, I used the Fancy Pants Leggings Pattern from Tichy Threads. Another easy and very satisfying recipe! I used the same method and sewed the brown fabric to the orange before cutting out the pattern.

The tail. The little tail is the best. It is simply worn by sewing directly onto the waistband that sits under the shirt.
I like that he can wear it up as a shirt later. My kids love to play dress up so I don’t think this weekend will be the last time I see them. This kid has a big butt and this design fits him perfectly. To say they are happy is an understatement!

Halloween costumes should be unique which is exactly what I hope a DIY Halloween costume will accomplish for you and your child.
This is the best part of decorating this house. You can literally make this entire outfit in less than an hour. And if you have children to help you do it, it will go faster. It’s just cardboard and paper!
All you need for fur is to make three long pages. Kids can help cut and fold easily!
You can use glue dots or double-sided tape if you have kids to help, but it probably won’t last as long as hot glue. That is what we want and of course we want the attention of the authorities on that. However, my daughter learned to use a low heat glue gun, so I recommend it when your child is older.
Top 3 Group Halloween Costume Ideas
Once you know that making a homemade fox at home will not be difficult, it’s time to do it. Gather the necessary items from the list below and get ready to create some Halloween magic.
Trace our fox shape onto the cardboard and then cut that shape out. (Look online and do your best to create a fox look – as long as you’re close, you’re good!)
Once it’s cut, it’s time to start adding on the triangles, aka “feathers”. Do this all over the fox’s body.
Make sure you cut a small arm hole so your child has a way to hold their clothes. If you are worried that the sleeve will not be a good idea on its own, you can just add a piece of string to tie your child with a DIY fox costume. This helps in trick or treating.

1. Take a flat piece of cardboard and draw a fox shape on it. The size depends on your child so take the appropriate measurements. Remove the tail so you can glue it on to make it soft and part of the body.
3. Draw a three-dimensional shape on a long piece of paper that you can use as a picture on art paper. Cut that out and print the triangular shapes from the orange paper. Fold in half.
4. Cut out the shapes of the inner ears, the white part of the face, the white part of the tail, the nose and the eyes as shown. You can give it any expression you want!
5. Before attaching any papers, you want to carve a half circle for the hand cut in the center of the fox. It’s your baby’s arm so make sure the half circle is big enough!
