The top map was created in January 2015. It was produced using a Robinson projection with standard parallels of 38 degrees north and 38 degrees south. Since Africa lies at the intersection of these standard parallels, the other parallels appear as “almost straight lines” on these maps. Therefore, these maps can be confused with a cylindrical Mercator projection similar to that long used in educational and navigation maps.
