Absolutely adorable pattern! Very easy to follow and very easy to make. I scaled the pattern up to 250% and made this baby absolutely adorable. If you make it the original size, make sure you add a seam allowance. I didn’t do that my first time and it was an impossible production because it was so small and now there was room to move around.
Awesome pattern!!! I’m looking for a sewing pattern to challenge myself because I’m a fairly inexperienced sewer — and I don’t have a sewing machine or even near-intermediate sewing knowledge, but the pattern is perfect and the instructions are very clear. I made a standing cat and I learned a lot from just the instructions. I cannot recommend this seller enough, thank you! Any questions I had – even those considered “self-explanatory” – were addressed through clear and concise instructions. Great pattern! It was pretty easy for me to follow, although I got a little lost when it came time to connect the stomach and body parts, but I’m a novice and terrible at following directions, so I don’t think the average person would have these problems. I finally figured it out and I’m having some fun making my little Maeve.

Today I’d like to introduce you to my penguin friends Poppy and Pip. These fun stuffed felt penguins make a great gift for the animal lover in your life. Who can resist a penguin? They have such personality and style.
Simplicity 1441 Rag Quilted Animal Pillows
I designed a large penguin first. Once I finished the pattern and it “came to life” so to speak, I had to make a penguin to go with it! Now I can’t imagine one without the other. They are sewn from a felt wool blend with some hand embroidered details. Felt is such an accessible material to work with that anyone very new to sewing toys can sew with confidence. I worked with my pattern testers to keep the shapes simple and the instructions detailed. I’m so happy with how they turned out!
The concept of this collection was directly inspired by my 10-year-old son. He has a tender heart and is a true animal lover. For his last birthday and Christmas, he donated a portion of his prize money to the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). He is concerned about climate change and habitat loss for animals. And by donating, he feels helpful rather than helpless. His big kind heart inspires me to do more! As a result, I created Wildlife with Love™ with all children in mind to raise awareness and support NWF.
Do you know about NWF? I love their mission: “The National Wildlife Federation works to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future.” They really have a big family focus on their website, emphasizing the importance of getting outside and spending time in nature. And don’t forget our house favorite Ranger Rick magazine.
So now you know what I’ve been up to for the past few months, a new labor of love. I hope these little characters captured your heart! I came home from a parlor sale a few years ago with a stack of 1960s craft books, and in one of them was a very old pamphlet called “Toys Made Easy to Sew.” It was in 1944 that Clarks O.N.T. – Published by J. & P. Coates (The merger of these two companies became the Coates & Clark we know today.) It was absolutely fascinating.
15 pages long, inside are six stuffed animal models: kangaroo, elephant, rabbit, horse, penguin and pig. And there is a boy and a girl doll model. The aesthetic is wonderfully dated, but still very attractive, so it actually feels modern. I think we will always be nostalgic for the classic doll look. They never grow old.
I love the cover photo – the dolls lined up, the kids looking away from the camera, the bunny on the boy’s head. If it’s in color (and it sticks out a ton) it could easily be the cover image of a modern model. It’s silly and cute. And can you see the little white outline of each figure around the pink rim?
