There are many design choices you can make. We have created a few different mixed media projects ourselves. Here are a few. I started with a piece of watercolor paper and painted the background with watercolors. While the paint dried, I continued to cut and design the elf’s shoes and tights.

I cut a pair of elf tights and then a bunch of different strips of scrapbook paper.

Scrapbook scraps made the perfect strips for elf tights. I placed the shapes of the two legs next to each other and then glued strips of different colors and patterns on the two legs until the legs were covered.

When they were done, I flipped the whole thing over and cut around the leg shapes to remove all the extra scrap.

When the paint was dry on the background, I cut up some newspaper and used it for our snowy hills in the background. Then I glued all the elf pieces to the background. Instead of cutting balls for the bottom of the shoes, I chose pom poms.

My daughter made one too. She didn’t use printables, instead she drew her elf shoes and tights on a plain white piece of paper.

She drew lines around her tights and then drew designs inside all of them. She liked the idea and before she changed her mind and decided she liked the plain stripes better.

She used gel pens to color in each strip. The bright and vivid colors of the gel pens were very effective for this project and look great.

When she laid out her pieces on a piece of construction paper, she said her tights weren’t big enough and drew her design with the help of pens.

She finished her elf boots and tights and added a few Christmas ornaments to top it off.

I loved the idea of sharpie designs on the straps of the tights, so I copied my girlfriend’s idea and made another one.
