Hi, I’m not happy! I’m sorry you’re so sad! I’m not actually a teacher and the pattern is free, so great news, right?! You can enter your email address in the form at the end of the post to have the link sent to you. The e-book can also be purchased if you want all the technical frameworks and instructions. These are little elephants with big ears and I think they make great gifts for babies and toddlers.
Since then I have received emails from readers asking if I would share the pattern. Of course it’s simple – but sometimes it’s more fun to have a project ready. So I hope you enjoy it and make more for all the little ones in your life.
Elephant Papercraft For Kids
A small amount of white colored clothing. It should be soft, thin and tightly woven. Good choices include fabrics with tight knits, cotton or light denim/chambray
A small amount of contrasting material for the ears and tail – light and soft cotton is the best choice
Print out the pattern and cut it out. You will also need to make a shape for the tail (I forgot to include it in the pattern-oops!)Â To do this, cut a rectangle that is 3″ long and 2.5″ wide. Then cut the rectangle so that it turns around a short corner (as in the picture below).
Cut out the parts of the elephant: two parts of the body (put the material right sides together, pin and cut), 4 pieces of ears and 2 parts of the tail.

Using a 1/4″ seam, topstitch the curved edges of both ears, press and then carefully cut the curved seam) and press again.
Take the two tail pieces and place them right sides together. Using a 1/4″ seam, stitch them together, leaving the top edge untouched. Press seam, clip corners, turn right side out and press again.
Collect the elephants. Unfold the body parts and lay both flat, right side up. Change the shape source symbol by marking it with a pencil. Using black yarn, work small chain stitches (I use about 3 very small chain stitches, one on top of the other) for the eye, both body parts.
Using the template tags as a guide, attach the ears to the front of the body, carefully tucking in the folded raw edges. Sew these ends together to attach the ears to the elephant, twisting the top and bottom of each ear.

Place the other half on top and glue it over. You will leave the top part unstitched to turn (as shown in the template):
Sew all around with a 1/4″ seam allowance. I sewed twice to make sure the toy would be sturdy.
