I picked up a small craft pumpkin from Michael for this DIY. While larger pumpkins allow for more elaborate and larger designs, it also means more carving! Going with a small pumpkin means less time to carve, and it’s easier to find a place to put it if you live in an apartment or have little space.

Hours Of Halloween: These Lego Batman Pumpin Carving Stencils Will Take Plenty Of Time To Carve

What better theme for pumpkin carving than Batman?! It’s the 20th anniversary of Batman: The Animated Series this year, so I decided to pay tribute by opting for the BTAS engraved pattern I found for free on this website. I used a razor to cut out the parts that needed to be traced to my pumpkin.

Before drawing the stencil on my pumpkin, I decided that my pumpkin would be black. I love the classic, familiar look of orange pumpkins, but black fits my Batman theme better, and black pumpkins are easier to keep as pre-Halloween garnishes, than orange pumpkins. Black goes with everything!

After spraying the pumpkin, I placed my stencil on the surface and used a pencil to make a pattern on the pumpkin. Since I was working on such a small surface, and I was worried the tape would damage the painted pumpkin, I just held the stencil in my hand as I traced.

Then it’s time to cut! This time of year you can find pumpkin carving kits almost anywhere. I picked up a set of snow tools at Walmart for $4. Carving a craft pumpkin is exactly the same as carving a real pumpkin. I can cut this pumpkin while watching TV. I love crafting while watching the show!

In Time For Halloween Justice League Pumpkin Stencils

At this point your pumpkin is carved and ready to display, it just needs some light! You will need a battery-powered tea lamp to power your carving craft pumpkin. They even have a flickering feature that makes them look like real candles! I didn’t want to cut off the top of my craft pumpkin like you did with the real pumpkin, so instead I made a hole in the bottom of my pumpkin to let the tea light in.

Carved pumpkins really glow at night when lit, but I wanted mine to look cool even during the day, and have the ability to be a decoration beyond Halloween. I decorated the moon part of my cave with gold rhinestones so that Batman is overshadowed by the shining yellow moon, day or night!

One simple afternoon, I got my pumpkin craft painted, carved, decorated, and ready to display! While I love real pumpkins and childhood memories of carving them, craft pumpkins are much more practical and fun to work with. You can decorate and edit it however you like and you won’t have to worry about it getting damaged and all your hard work going to waste! Depending on how you carve and make them, they can even make stylish decorations for display all year round.

Carving pumpkins is a great Halloween family activity for kids of all ages (although carving pumpkins is a must for adults).
