2d And 3d Shapes Names

2d And 3d Shapes Names – A 3D shape is also called a three-dimensional shape with specific properties, including the number of edges, faces, and vertices. All 3D shaped objects are solids that have certain dimensions along the X, Y, and Z axis called length, width, and height, also called solid object dimensions.

A cuboid is also known as a rectangular prism. The faces of the cuboid are rectangular. It has six faces, eight edges and eight vertices respectively.

A cylinder is a solid geometric figure with two parallel circular bases connected by a curved surface. It has no spikes.

A pyramid with all upper faces are isosceles triangles that connect at a vertex and the base surface is square.

A hemisphere looks like a cut part of the globe. The cut surface looks like a circle and the rest looks like a solid semicircle.

A pyramid with all faces like a triangle is called a tetrahedron. It has six edges, four faces and four vertices respectively.

A square pyramid is a pyramid with a square base and the other faces are like triangles connected by a single end vertex.

A sphere is a solid rounded ball that contains no flat surfaces, edges, and vertices

A polyhedron is a solid, 3D shape that contains flat surfaces and straight edges. A regular polyhedron is a 3D shape whose faces are all the same shape.

A dodecagon is also called a regular polyhedron with all faces having the same shape. It has 12 faces and they all look like pentagons.

A triangular prism is a prism with two triangular faces whose vertices are connected by an edge forming a rectangular face. It has six vertices, nine edges and five faces. Everything we see in this world is made up of different geometric shapes. Heck, even the planet we live on is a big geometric shape when viewed from space. Therefore, it is important to know most of them not only to know what they are, but also for our education, because geometric shapes play an important role in various fields such as natural science and mathematics. With that in mind, I’ve created this article to briefly explain exactly what geometric shapes are, as well as their many different types, both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D).

By definition, geometric shapes are the purest form of an object or figure, meaning that no matter how much it is moved, rotated, magnified, or reflected in a mirror, it will remain the same shape as the original when . it still hasn’t caught on. To put it simply, if you say something is a circle in geometry, no matter what angle you look at it or how much you play with it, it will still have the property of a geometric circle.

With the birth of geometry, mathematicians began to develop rules about what makes a certain geometric shape, and these rules defined the different types of geometric shapes we have today.

To simplify, geometric shapes are divided into two main groups, depending on their sizes. The first group consists of two-dimensional (2D) shapes with length and width, while the second group consists of three-dimensional (3D) shapes with length, width and depth.

As explained above, 2D geometric shapes have length and width. Under 2D shapes, there are two additional classifications namely polygons and non-polygons. Polygons are two-dimensional geometric shapes made of straight lines that meet at one of their endpoints and form a closed figure. On the other hand, non-polygons are closed figures made of curved lines or a combination of straight lines and curved lines.

A triangle is a type of polygon that has exactly three sides and three vertices or corners. There are different types of triangles and they are classified by the length of their sides or their interior angles.

A triangle with an interior angle of 90 degrees. The side opposite this angle is called the hypotenuse, which is also the longest side of a right triangle.

It is simply a triangle without a 90 degree interior angle. Below the oblique triangles there are two more types:

It is a triangle with an interior angle of 180 degrees. However, it technically looks like a line segment if you try to draw it.

Quadrilaterals are polygons with exactly four sides and four corners. Quadrilaterals are divided into two main types, simple and complex.

Simple quadrilaterals are quadrilaterals that do not intersect. This type is further divided into two:

A.1. Convex quadrilaterals – All quadrilaterals that belong to this type have no interior angle greater than 180 degrees. The following are its types:

A quadrilateral with an interior angle greater than 180 degrees. It has only one type called dart.

The main difference between concave and convex polygons is the measurement of their interior angles. A convex polygon only has all of its interior angles measuring less than 180 degrees, while a concave polygon has one or more interior angles that exceed 180 degrees.

These two are other classifications of a polygon where regular polygons have both sides of equal length and interior angles of equal measure. The most common examples of a regular polygon include an equilateral triangle, a square, a pentagon, and hexagons and octagons. Irregular polygons, on the other hand, are figures that do not meet the same conditions to be considered a regular polygon.

As the name suggests, 2D curved shapes are closed figures made of pure curved lines or a combination of straight lines and curved lines. As discussed earlier, all 2D curved shapes are also considered non-polygons. The most common examples of such geometric shapes are circles, ellipses, arcs, sectors, segments, parabolas and hyperbolas.

As mentioned earlier, three-dimensional (3D) shapes, also known as solid figures, are figures that have the same length, width, and an additional dimension called depth. Mathematically, there are many solid numbers, but the main types are as follows:

This type of solid figure has six rectangle-shaped faces. Each adjacent part of its face meets and forms an exact 90 degree angle.

This figure is like a cuboid, except that its faces are parallelograms instead of rectangles. Therefore, its adjacent faces do not create 90 degree angles.

These are any solid figures with polygonal faces that are flat, as well as sharp corners and straight edges.

These are solid figures with two bases of equal size connected by rigid parallelograms with equal faces. The number of faces corresponds to the number of sides the bases have.

A solid figure with a circular base that tapers gently to a point called the apex.

A cylinder is a solid figure with two circular bases at the top and bottom. Its sides are parallel to each other and the cross-section can be round or oval, depending on how it is cut.

These solids are regular, convex polyhedra made up of faces that are each regular polygons. In geometry, only five solid figures meet these criteria and they are as follows: Here you will find a wide range of free printable 2D and 3D shape sheets to display or support the study of mathematics.
