Every year at Christmas I make homemade peppermint Oreos and if I do say so myself, they are always a huge hit! Family and friends always ask for them this time of year. Last year I was browsing Pinterest (weird, I know) and came across this post about making elf shoes for Oreos… I was so excited! Now that I can make Mint Oreos, I have a cute way to gift them.

First you want to melt the candies. If using the microwave, use the defrost setting and thaw them every 30 seconds, then mix. Do this until they are completely dissolved. There are instructions for the candies on the package. Once dissolved, add peppermint extract. I use my judgment on this, but I probably use 1/2 tbsp. Now dip the oreos into the melted candy…make sure you coat all the oreos. After coating, place Oreos on wax paper to harden. Once it hardens enjoy with a glass of milk!

The first thing you need to do is melt the candy… I use the microwave, but if you’re using a double boiler, be very careful not to get water in the bowl. Please do as I say – I’ve made this mistake before and it’s not pretty.
I don’t double the candy packs…every time you get a bad bag, so if you combine bags your whole bunch is ruined. Again, I speak from experience 🙂
Next, you take your peppermint extract and add it to the candy melt. I guess at this point and it always comes out right.
Now this part took me a while to get the hang of, but you have to coat both sides of the Oreo and make sure it’s completely covered.

I like to sprinkle extra candies on top of the wax paper to harden.
Another great thing about the site I found is that they also have a pattern, so all I had to do was track it down.
